Sooner rather than later, Starbucks will start advertising fall flavors, and you know what that means… tis the season to be called a basic every time you buy something flavored with pumpkin spice. Well, if you’re a pumpkin spice fanatic and feel constantly judged, you aren’t alone.
Let me tell you something, there is nothing wrong with getting into the fall season and all the amazing flavors it has to offer; including pumpkin spice. I mean come on, you’re allowed to pull out an endless flannel wardrobe, but we can’t enjoy a simple drink? Sounds like a bit of a double standard if you ask me.
Not to mention, how could you avoid pumpkin spice when it seems like just about every product line out there has its own variation? We already are very aware of the drinks, coffee creamers, and donuts. Now, we’ve even got cereal, cookies, chips, cinnamon buns, candy, burritos, toothpaste (yes, I said toothpaste), and more. Okay, so maybe some of these products are extreme, but if you’re a real fan of pumpkin spice, you’ll stand by your taste buds on this one.
Does it make someone a ‘basic white girl’ to drink regular coffee on the daily? Apparently, only if it’s flavored for fall. Which makes no sense. The same could go for any holiday-themed movies that resurface every fall. I could call someone who watches all the Halloweentown movies every year a "basic", but if the person enjoys the movies, who am I to stop them? Now, I have your attention, don’t I? Who deemed being festive as being ‘basic’ because I sure would like to know?
If you are somebody who likes the pumpkin spice world in the fall, don’t be ashamed of that. Own it! Haters are gonna hate, but let’s strut around this fall proud to be holding and enjoying our pumpkin spice lattes.
