Pullman: The Promise land

A magical place.

Pullman: The Promise land
Alexandra Layne Heinrich

Now, if you are not from Washington, you may have never even heard of the small town in the Palouse, known as Pullman. If you are from Washington, you may have trouble coming up with much more that is there, other then Washington State University, which is true. However, it is that exact reason, that Pullman is such an amazing place to be.

The people in Pullman are all tied by the love they have for WSU and their coug teams. Everywhere you go, whether it be restaurants, grocery stores, or simply driving down the street, you will see flags, signs, shirts, all proudly displaying the logo, and exchanging a, "Go Cougs!" with others that pass by.

Many of the people here are young college students, all in the same boat. They are in school, working, having a good time, and they all love their school. You go out to breakfast or dinner and almost everyone else that is there you recognize from somewhere on campus.

Everyone will tell you that Pullman has this type of magic in it, that makes you never want to leave, and if you do have to, you cannot wait to come back to the beautiful rolling hills and breathtaking sunsets.

The long, boring car ride that is the drive from the west side to Pullman is made completely worth it, when you see the big "Go Cougs" barn in the middle of a field in Othello, and then the signs letting you know you have finally arrived in Pullman.

There is not a ton to do there, that is true. No huge malls, no bustle of a big, busy city, but just a small town of little shops and restaurants, and a University that is proudly displayed. Truly, it is in the middle of nowhere, but it is this small town aspect, this isolation from everyone and everything, that makes it so special, and connects the people that are here, together.

If you want a college, town, this is the definition of a college town. No one loves anything more than their Cougs, and that is very clear.

Pullman, while regarded by anyone who has never been, or those who are UW Fans, as "boring", is known to those lucky enough to live here and attend school here as, "the promise land". For the rest of our lives, we will come back to Pullman and tailgate on Cougar Football Saturdays with the rest of the die-hard, proud alumni, that pack the hotels and parking lots every weekend, and get that same feeling of magic, family, pride and sense of being "home".

It is all of those things that make Pullman, and Washington State University, so special, and so unique, and something you will never quite understand unless you are lucky enough to be apart of it.

Go Cougs, always.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
