3 reasons why I think Puerto Vallarta is the best LGBTQ+ city in Mexico

In This Article:

If you’re anything like me, you love to travel. However, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community finding a place that doesn’t just tolerate you but also celebrates your identity and lifestyle is hard to find. That’s why I make it my mission to do my research before traveling to any place because I want to make sure I will have a great time being my whole self. This brings me to Puerto Vallarta and why it is my favorite and hands down the best city to go to in Mexico if you identify as LGBTQ+. So let’s get into it!

When you travel you may find it hard to find places that truly accept who you are. That’s why I like to research and find out ahead of time. So when I found out there were restaurants, bars, and specific nights/events just for our community, I knew this would be a great place to visit. There are places like Elixir Mixology Bar, Blondies, and Blue Chairs just to name a few! All of which will have you wanting to go back for more!

Traveling around the city is always a 5-10 minutes drive.

This may not be a big deal for most, but this is great to know before going on vacation. You should always know how long it will take to get to your favorite places and what transportation options are available. The local bus is always going to be your cheapest route. However, if you’re new to traveling or just a little nervous, this may not be for you. Uber is available as well and is also reasonably priced if you don’t want to taxi, which is also available. However, if you’re not one to carry cash on you, Uber will be your best choice.

Your Pride experience will never be the same!

Pride in Puerto Vallarta is one of the best Pride celebrations in the entire world! There are so many events in different parts of the city, you’ll definitely want to plan out your experience. The parade is one that involves almost every business and organization in the city which is very beautiful to see! There are very few cities (in my opinion) where you’re able to see that type of support come out during the parade, and once you get a taste, you’ll only want to do it every year!

So by now, you’re probably looking up flights and hotels for Puerto Vallarta, which was my plan all along. Just know that it will probably be love at first sight, and it will be hard for you to leave. My advice. While you’re there, live it up, and save a margarita for me!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
