In everything you do, pray. This is what we are told to do, but what about when God answers our prayers with "wait."
Patience is a virtue that I lack. Waiting for food, in traffic or for petty things seems like a struggle for me, so how could I possibly be told by God Himself to wait?
Not only does God tell me to wait, it definitely isn't in traffic. The large obstacles in life such as waiting for the right person, waiting for my career and just plain waiting on answers is what He tells me to do.
"He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalms 46:10 | NIV
Amidst my fighting being told to wait, I am reminded that when I am all alone I am in the presence of God. No matter what God is making me be patient for, I can always praise with empty hands. In Psalms 46:10 God is first telling us to be still, yet mention how His name will be exalted. Our God makes us very simple to praise Him. It is so much easier to praise Him while I am not fighting him for my own plans.
Waiting on answers or solutions from God tests our faith in more ways than we can mention.
In waiting, you truly realize where your trust lies. Do you trust worldly things such as relationships and wealth or God Himself? When we are kept from the things we want we are being asked to surrender our "all" even though we so often forget what "all" is.
On top of all of this, how humbling is it to not get what you want when you want it? How thankful do we become when we receive something we feel is worth the wait? I know that we would much rather have blessings on demand, but our God humbles us in times of patience and that is a virtue I wish I had more of.
There is something beautiful in the stillness of waiting for God. No matter if you're waiting for answers or blessings, God creates beauty out of our waiting.
