PSA: Stop being vain and move on

An open letter to the people who still live in their high school days.

Dear anyone who is above the age of eighteen; and still think it's okay to act like you're in high school,

This letter may come to you as a surprise but no one really cares about what you accomplished in high school. I was inspired to write this when I couldn't help but over hear a girl the other day talking to a complete stranger. She went on and on saying how she was super involved in high school, she did track, took three AP classes all while having time to plan her "perfect" prom. I basically heard her whole life story. Sure, those things are great (Claps for you random girl.) However, why would anyone care a year or two after your high school career ended? We live in a society where people think their past success will continue into their future. Is it entitlement, or just our obnoxious millennial generation?

I actually enjoyed high school very much. I had great friends, good teachers, and I was involved in quite a few extracurricular activities. However, I knew when it was time to grow up and move on. No one cares what your class rank was.(Spoiler there's always someone who is going to be smarter than you.) Chances are if you were the smartest in your high school class, you won't be the smartest in college. No one cares what you wore to prom, who you dated or who you hung out with. I can honestly say I pity the people who still are "in love" with their high school and act as if they still walk the halls. College is all about growing up and finding new opportunities to shape yourself. I noticed a lot of the people who still love high school and act as if they are in their glory days are washed out. Yes, that may seem harsh but it's true. They are the people who will always live in the same town, have their children attend the same school they did, and continue this cycle of not seeing the world. People say try to go to college out of state if you can because in state college is basically a bigger version of high school. I couldn't agree more.

So as my rant comes to an end I hope this letter doesn't offend you. If this applies to your life you should seriously consider changing your mentality. Do it for the people around you and for your own sanity. It's not healthy to live in the past.

Sincerely,

A girl who attends college 12 hours away from home and knows when to move on.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Bucket List To Live In The Now

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
