At this point, the whole world has learned that Kim Kardashian-West was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room in Paris. The robbers got away with almost $10 million worth of jewelry, and though she was unharmed, Kim was badly shaken. Officials believe it was an inside job given that it was the only time she was without a security detail that week. Her husband Kanye West abruptly ended a show in New York to come to his wife's side. These are the facts, so why does anyone think this scenario is funny?
Though I dislike Kim K as much as the rest of the civilized planet, and I think her family's predominant social media presence is irritating and frankly dangerous given their lavish lifestyles, I firmly believe that anyone cracking jokes about this situation needs to keep their jokes to themselves.
The reality star was abroad for Paris Fashion Week with her mother and her two sisters and flaunted millions of dollars worth of jewelry on her Snapchat throughout the week. Yeah, this is a pampered reality star, but she's also a human being. Imagine being in that same situation, having a gun pointed to your head, pleading for your life to a pair of masked assailants. Would you want to leave that situation only to have the world say, "Oh she totally deserved it"?
I understand that she puts herself up for scrutiny by making her private life so public, but the public needs a lesson in compassion. Just because you can make a joke doesn't mean you should. Take it from Late Late Show frontman James Corden, who tweeted in Kim's defense.
People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she's a mother,a daughter,a wife,a friend.Be nice or shut up

In short, be nice people. Kim K didn't deserve to be robbed just because she had things to rob.
