I am a proud young mother

"Too young"

I am a proud young mother

I had my beautiful baby girl when I was 18, I am a young mother. I do not call myself a "teen mom", because I'm not a teen mom I am a YOUNG mother! I know exactly what people are thinking as I walking by them while caring my baby, "man she is way to young to have a baby", or the best one yet "She is too young she doesn't know what to do with a baby". Mind you that I am the oldest grandchild and also have a little brother and worked at a daycare, I believe I may know just a little bit of what I am doing. Age does not define you as a mother! If you're 16-25 you will always be consider too young to have a baby. Does being younger than 25 make is harder to be a mom, yes you face a lot of challenge's especially if you are going to college. Even being 16 and finishing high school will make things a little rough, but that doesn't make them a bad mom. Being young means I get to spend more time with my baby and we get to grow together. Do I believe things would be easier if I hadn't of gotten pregnant well yes, but that doesn't mean that I can't do the things I had planned on doing with my life. I may be starting college a semester later than what I would of liked, but that doesn't mean I cant do it. Age does not define the ability to be a good mother. There are millions of women in this world who are mothers who probably really shouldn't be. AGE is not a factor in who is a good mother and who isn't. Taking care of your babies (no matter your age or where you are at in life) is what makes you a good mother! Putting your babies as you TOP PRIORITY makes you a good mom! People act like being a young mother is the worst thing out there, when in reality "young mothers" probably work harder for what they need or want more than any other person out there, and most of the time they aren't working for what they want or what they need, its for their child! They work hard for what their child wants or needs. So the next time you see a "young mother" remind yourself that just because she is young that doesn't make her a "bad mother." I may of had my baby girl at a young age, but that just means I get to love her longer. Young moms still work, they still go to school, and they are still trying to become who they want to be. Don't judge a mother by her age, because everything happens for a reason.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
