Protests On The Street

What are all these Trump Protests really about?

Now we have all lost one way or another, whether it was us personally on a team, or a team/individual that we wanted to win. When it comes to the FIFA World Cup for soccer, my team is Argentina, and the FIFA World Cup only comes around every 4 years. It is devastating to see my team lose. Even our university football team has lost twice this year; so, it has been a pretty good season, but still we have lost. We’ve probably lost many events in our lives, whether it was with sports, or a spot in the play, or even getting into the school we want to get into. And now the latest loss for the millennials, the election.

But this hasn’t just been a regular loss. When a sports team loses, life continues, people go to school the next day, class schedules run normal, everything just goes the way it is supposed to. But, let’s admit it, when Hillary Clinton lost this election, her voters lost too. Protests have been going rampant since the night of the election, slogans such as “Dump Trump” and “Not My President” have been a centerpiece in these rallies. Now there is nothing wrong with taking a stand and wanting to protest. And the majority of these protests have been peaceful, but some have lost control, some have become violent, to the point of people being shot. But what do these rallying cries want from Trump?

The list could go on and on, but here are the important points that people are protesting for:

1) Hilary won the popular vote, she should win the presidency. Sorry, but that is not how the voting system in the United States works which has been in place since 1787.

2) LGBTQ rights, people believe that everything that has been done in the last 8 years with the Obama administration will be undone, But I do not think that will be the case, I believe that LGBTQ rights will keep progressing towards true equality.

3) The Wall, the famous wall that Trump has been talking about since he started running. People believe that all illegal immigrants (11 million recorded in 2012) will be kicked out of the country, but Trump has stated that the criminal (2 million) illegal immigrants be brought to justice, and quite honestly, that makes perfect sense. And the list goes on.

I truly believe that all of this will work out, there is no need to “Dump Trump”, it is time to move on and see what we can do to help. As of right now there is no need to protest because there has been no action from Trump to that is taking away the rights from any people. And let’s admit it, these protests have not changed the election results at all. So let us accept this loss, and move on and remain hopeful. Using the words of former President JFK, “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
