To the protesters in Dallas, Texas: I am sorry and I am praying for you. As the daughter of a well-respected man in blue, I still respect and pray for you. I know, as do many others like me, that you are looking for justice against the very rare, but tragic, police brutality. I am so sorry that you feel unequal. I am so sorry that you feel scared. But I am most sorry that, that disgusting man ruined your peaceful protest and ruined your point.
I know racism is still a rare, but real problem. I know police brutality is a rare, but real problem. I know you were looking for answers and support, and I am so sorry that one horrible man ruined that for you. I look at all the pictures and videos taken of happy police officers with respectable protesters, and my heart aches that it solved nothing all because of one evil heart.
I pray that you find peace in your communities. I pray that when you are pulled over for a harmless traffic violation, that you encounter an officer like my father who sees no color or ethnicity, an officer who wants to help you and keep you safe as he keeps his own family safe.
I am so sorry that there are still a few people in this world who make you fear our local heroes, but I do ask one thing. I ask that you maintain that peace no matter what. Do not let this awful act of white-hate spark your fire against white cops. This is not a matter of racism, or a matter of police corruption; it is simply a matter of a few cases that have been blown out of proportion thanks to our media.
By all means, what those few bad cops have done should not go unpunished. But please remember the men and women like my father. Please, if not for yourself, maintain the peace for the good men and women who just want to come home to their families.
Please remember that more white people have been killed by cops than all other races, in the last year. But, also, more cops have been killed this year over one common protest for blacks than any other. Please remember that the injustice is out of fear, not race, a majority of the time.
I understand and support your protest. I understand you are fighting for justice for any and all innocent lives lost due to an overstep in law enforcement. But please make sure the focus is on the specific officers that made the mistake and not the ones who fought to protect you that night in Texas against the one evil man who admitted to wanting to kill white cops only. Do not stop standing up for what you believe in, but please let my dad come home safe. Please remain peaceful, and I will continue to pray for you.
My heart hurts for you. My heart hurts for those cops killed and injured. My heart hurts over the evil that has invaded our country. I will pray and support peace, always, no matter what. Make a stand and don't let the people who support killing white cops represent you. I will continue to support you as long as you maintain the peace you are demanding. Thank you.
