A Protein Smoothie Recipe That Tastes Just As Good As Ice Cream

The ultimate healthy alternative to ice cream.

There isn't a food that says "summer" more than ice cream. If I could, I would have ice cream for all three meals (there may or may not have been days where that was the case). Although there is no denying ice cream is ridiculously amazing, it isn't the healthiest choice to nourish our bodies. Sure, there are healthier brands out there that offer non-dairy versions and lower calories with more protein, but these are still highly processed with lots of sugar. So, my ridiculous ice cream cravings made me search out healthier alternatives.

That's how I discovered the ultimate protein-packed smoothie that will satisfy a sweet tooth, and leave you full and without the stomachache dairy can give. It is the perfect meal to leave you satisfied for hours without being too full. While it's not quite the same as a scoop of cookie dough ice cream on a waffle cone, it is something to leave me feeling satisfied. Plus, all that is needed is a blender, a banana, almond milk, protein powder, and peanut butter!

Directions:

  1. Start by adding one peeled banana and a handful of ice to the blender
  2. Pour in about a ¾ cup of unsweetened almond milk (other dairy alternatives like coconut milk would work)
  3. Blend until smooth
  4. Add in two scoops of protein powder (I use Herbalife Cookies and Cream)
  5. Add PB2 (this is a powdered form of peanut butter with a lot fewer calories and fat)
  6. Blend until all ingredients are mixed
  7. Pour into a bowl and enjoy!

This is my go-to meal on a hot summer day. It is filling and will provide long-lasting energy, without added sugar or preservatives. It has healthy fats, natural sugars, and protein. These nutrients are critical for wellbeing and maintaining energy throughout the day without crashing. There are also many ways to customize this recipe to the ingredients that you have on hand. I often add chia seeds, strawberries, and granola on top.

Life is all about balance, so go have that waffle cone, it is summer after all! The more I ignore my cravings, the more I find myself thinking of the food and wanting it. By having healthier versions of the "junk" food, I can have the foods I want, but still give my body the healthy foods that will keep me feeling my best.

With alternatives like this protein smoothie, you don't have to ignore cravings!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
