Protective Hairstyles For Natural Hair

Whether you have curls, coils, or kinks protective styling is extremely important for natural hair. When we wear our natural hair out sometimes we put it through so much. Constantly running our fingers through it, putting excessive heat on it, or getting it caught on clothing. Every once in a while, we should put our hair away to give it a break.

Box braids

Box braids were the first protective style that I got on my hair. Box braids are when small sections of your hair get braided onto a hair extension. This hairstyle is great because your hair is completely put away while it is braided into a hair extension. When you are getting this make sure to not braid too tight around your edges. If your edges are braided too tight, it can cause hair loss in that area. This hairstyle can last for about a month. Take it out if your braids starts to hang off of your new growth.

Twists

Twists are similar to box braids but instead of braids they are two strand twists. I like this hairstyle better than braids because they felt lighter than braids to me. This hairstyle can last for about a month. Just make sure not to keep it in for too long.

Cornrows

Cornrows can be done with or without hair extensions. Cornrows is a hairstyle that involves your natural hair and hair extensions being braided down to your scalp. I prefer mine with hair extensions because of my hair length. You can get them braided in any size.

Wigs

Yes, a wig! The wig world is honestly too complex for me. There are so many different types of wigs out there. Underneath a wig you can either put it in cornrows or in a low bun with a wig cap on top. You can install them either by sewing it on, using a drawstring, or sticking the combs on the wig on the cap. I never tried it before but I really want to. Your hair is completely protected with a wig. Just make sure it is secure.

CrochetBraids

Crochet braids are a very different hairstyle. Each hair strand is installed individually by using a crochet tool. You can rock curly or straight hairstyles. This hairstyle can last for about a month as well. It depends on how well your take care of the hair extensions and your hair underneath.

Bun

If all fails, just rock a bun. You can just use your real hair. If your hair isn't long enough or you wanna take it up a notch, add hair extensions to it. You can rock a low bun or high bun. This can last a few days.

Ponytail

A ponytail is a quick and simple hairstyle. You can rock your natural hair in a ponytail or you can add extensions of course. You can rock a curly one or you can rock a straight one. Either way this hairstyle is super sexy. This hairstyle can last a couple days.

These are some protective hairstyles that you can get ideas from this summer. When you take these hairstyles out make sure to do a treatment. That way your hair can get back on track.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
