We all know what time of year it is; cold and flu season. For some people, a strong immune system fights these common germs off with no problem. For others, it's not as easy.
Here are some ways you can protect yourself and others from germs this sick season:
1. WASH YOUR HANDS
This is quite possibly the single handily most important thing a person can do to prevent the spread of germs. The CDC suggests washing with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds before meals and after sneezing or coughing.
2. Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
Many viruses and bacteria enter the body through the eyes, nose, and mouth. If a germ is on your hand, the likelihood of it infecting your body is increased if contact is made with these parts of the body.
3. Avoid close contact with others.
If you are sick, or feel that you may be getting sick, avoid hugging, kissing, shaking hands, or eating/drinking after others. Avoiding contact can decrease the spread of germs from person to person tremendously.
4. Cover your mouth.
When coughing or sneezing, it's always best to cover your mouth with your sleeve or a tissue. Using your hand and not being able to wash immediately afterwards can cause the germs to spread directly.
5. STAY AT HOME
Another very important thing a sick person can do is to stay at home. If you are sick, could be sick, or even just don't feel well, stay home in case you may be contagious and not know it.
Please think about others, as well as yourself, this sick season and do these things (and any others) to prevent the spread of germs.
