More hair, more problems

If you're like me, you have thick, frizzy, messy hair sitting on top of your head. It's heavy and sometimes, I want to chop it all off. But other times, it's a blessing and I have to remember that I am "lucky" to have thick hair... At least my mom tells me I am lucky. Sometimes I feel lucky, but other times I disagree. Here are both sides.

Pros:

1. People are always commenting about it.

"Wow, your hair is super thick and so long!" is a common compliment from friends and strangers. I hear this all the time.

2. You never have to worry about going bald.

I have enough hair to last me a lifetime or two.

3. You can basically do any hairstyle in the book.

A braid? Yep. Double braids? Even better. Just name a hairstyle and it can most likely be done.

4. It is the perfect pillow.

If I ever need an instant pillow, all I need to do is ball up my hair. It has a lot of cushion. It feels like a smaller version of the pillows above.

5. It is like a scarf.

Wearing my hair down in the winter keeps my neck very warm.

6. My hair is like a weapon.

I have accidentally hit some of my friends in the face with my hair and I guess it is not a pleasant feeling.

Cons:

1. It takes hours to air dry.

I would say it takes an average of 2-3 hours for my hair to air dry completely.

2. It takes hours to straighten it or curl it.

Okay, maybe not hours. But it does take a very long time.

3. Your hair is everywhere.

My friends find my hair on their floors, blankets, beds, clothes. I basically leave a hair trail wherever I go.

4. High buns are a no.

The only hairstyle that will not work with thick hair are high buns. If I want to have a high bun in my hair, it takes around 10 ponytail holders to secure it to the top of my head. Sometimes that does not even guarantee a bun for more than 5 minutes.

5. A bottle of shampoo only lasts two to three weeks.

Lots of hair requires lots of shampoo.

6. Dying it would be expensive.

I have never dyed my hair and don't plan on it, but if I ever did, I would have to sell a kidney to pay for it.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
