The Pros And Cons Of 'Don't Starve Together'
codexdecrypted.com

"Don’t Starve Together" is an indie survival horror game with one goal: survive. It is an online multiplayer expansion from Klei Entertainment’s original game, "Don’t Starve." In this twisted horror game the character of your choice is thrown out into a randomly generated world. The kicker is that you start with nothing, and everything is out to get you. Here are the pros and cons of playing this game.

Pros:

1. If you’re looking for a challenging video game, this is for you.

Rabid animals, the dangers of fire, decreasing sanity, harsh cold nights, scavenging for food, and did I mention death at every corner?

2. Playing with friends.

This is a massively multiplayer online game, which means you and your friends can play together! After all, if you’re going to starve to death, might as well do it with your friends, right?

3. Crafting system.

In the beginning, you are thrown into the world with nothing, but you can quickly start picking up items and crafting all sorts of stuff to help you along your way. You can make anything from a torch to a nightmare amulet; the possibilities are endless.

4. Art style.

Think of a two-dimensional Tim Burton cartoon. It’s a unique design incorporating a dark twist with heavy dark lines.

5. Every game is different.

The world randomly generates each time, making it nearly impossible to play the same world twice. You can also play as multiple different characters; you can be anyone from a gentleman scientist who grows a magnificent beard to a performance artist whose role of a lifetime is a warrior princess. Needless to say, every game stands on its own.

Cons:

1. Once again, it’s really challenging; borderline cruel.

There are some random acts of mischief in the game that are meant to keep you on your toes, but they can be really difficult to get through. Some examples are forest fires, lightning strikes, attacks of hell hounds, and attacks from giants.

2. It’s still in beta testing.

It has been in testing for a year with still no information on when they will release a full game.

3. Some connectivity issues.

Internet connection problems come with online gaming a lot of the time. It’s unfortunate, but it is a sad truth.

4. A few features from the base game are missing.

You’re unable to travel through worlds and caves, which is a very cool feature from the original game, "Don't Starve."

5. Steep learning curve.

It doesn’t have a tutorial to tell you how to play the game. This means you’re kind of on your own with figuring out what to do to survive, but at least you have friends.

All in all, this game is really neat when compared to the horror games we’re given today. The style is really unique and it’s actually a challenge to survive. If you don’t mind dying numerous times from the different dangers of a world, I’d suggest trying it out.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
