Pros And Cons Of Being Single

Yep, we've all been there.

Pros And Cons Of Being Single

Most, if not all of us, go through the single phase at least a dozen times in our lives and there's nothing wrong with that. Being single can be fun, especially in college, but it can get frustrating at times too. So here are the ups and downs, the happys and crappys, the "oh craps" and "oh yeas", the pros and cons of being single.

Pros

1. You're not tied down to one person. You get to be a free spirit and play the field, or like my grandma always said, "be friends with them all."

2. Jealousy doesn't happen. There is no one saying you can't hang out with certain people. You can hang out with all your friends, no matter the gender, and that's okay. You can even flirt a little, too.

3. You can plan your future and don't have to take another person into consideration. You can go where you want, do what you want and be who you want.

4. Girls, you don't have to worry about what you look like in the mornings. When you're sleeping alone, you wake up alone. So who cares if your makeup is smudged from yesterday and you look like a raccoon? That's right, nobody!

5. Guys, you don't have to worry about the late night or early morning interrogations. There's no one there at 2 a.m. asking you where you've been all night. So enjoy it and stay out all night if you want.

Cons

1. We all get lonely sometimes so it's nice to know you have someone there for you. Someone who can be your cuddle buddy or a thunder buddy.

2. The lack of intimacy or romance. Depending on how outgoing you are and how often you go out, this could be a problem. In a relationship, it's nice to know there's always someone there to sweep you off your feet.

3. You can start to feel left out. The older you get and the more friends you have in relationships, you can start to feel pushed aside. Even if you tag along, you could feel like the third wheel.

4. Feeling left behind. Like mentioned above, everyone is moving forward in life. It's completely normal to feel like you don't have your life together or that you're not moving forward.

5. Not having anyone to travel with. Whether you want to travel the world or travel the state, you always need a buddy. Being single just makes it a little harder to do this. The only exception would be a best friend.

As you can see, there are many benefits to being single as well as drawbacks. But no matter what end of the spectrum you're on, there is no need to rush anything. As much fun as it can be to be single, having a special person can be fun too. And as much as you might hate being alone, don't try to rush into anything or force it. Just go with the flow and let it happen, but most of all, be you and have fun!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
