Pros And Cons Of A Lesbian Relationship

Why dating a girl is the best/worst thing

Generally, a same-sex relationship works the same way that a straight relationship does. There are just a few things that differentiate the two types due to biology, gender roles created by society, or stereotypes/prejudice from others. Here's a few of the good and bad sides of a girl dating a girl:

Pros:

1. Clothes

Many times I've found myself without the right clothes for a certain event, but my girlfriend's closet saved the day. It's great to have access to a second wardrobe without extra cost! Bonus points if you both have the same shoe size.

2. Sharing beauty/hygiene products

Period started early and you need a tampon? Bae has you covered. Out of shampoo/conditioner/body wash/some makeup item? She probably has that too.

3. No gender roles

In a straight relationship, people tend to fall into traditional gender roles. This sometimes caused a struggle between me and my boyfriends, being the feminist I am. They would get annoyed when I insisted on paying for dinner or get weirded out if I did things like open the door for them. In a lesbian relationship you and your partner are free to define your own roles! P.S. When you ask who's the "man" in the relationship, you're just trying to apply the traditional view of a male gender role to a relatioinship that does not have a man in it. Please never ask this question, ever.

4. Friends are supportive

Millennials are typically more liberal or open-minded than older generations which means that most of your friends are supportive of you dating a girl.

5. Free birth control

When dating a girl it's pretty nice to never have to worry about getting pregnant from sex when you use zero protection. And no annoying pill reminders buzzing from your phone once a day, which is pretty great.

6. Sex is great

In same-sex relationships you know exactly where to go and what to do, since you share the same anatomy as your partner.

7. Girls understand girls

Boys can be kind of naive when it comes to girls. In a lesbian relationship your partner understands you better. They know what PMS feels like and they understand how it feels to be a victim of sexism. Going shopping with your significant other is a much more enjoyable experience when that person is also a girl. They get why you want to spend a lot of money on makeup or underwear and they don't sit on a bench in the store & just wait for you to finish trying on a million outfits.

Cons:

1. You can't have a kid that shares both of your genes

I'll never know the answer to "I wonder what our kids would look like" because, obviously, it's biologically impossible for one woman to impregnate another. Sperm banks and adoption are still amazing ways to start a family, but I'll never be able to see the product of my and my future wife's genes.

2. Two Periods

Some lesbian couples are lucky enough to get synced up to each other's cycles, but this isn't always the case. Some months, half your month can be ruined or blood soaked when you and your partner menstruate for a week at a time on two totally different weeks.

3. Who makes the first move?

If you're shy like I am, it's easier in a straight relationship. If you're a girl dating a guy, it's easy to sit back and expect him to make the first moves. For a lesbian relationship the burden falls on both of you. Also, if you're shy but your partner is even shier, it's stressful because now you're the one that has to make all the moves.

4. The fam might not support you

Millennials are generally great and accepting, but older family members can be tricky. Older generations tend to be more traditional and conservative, so your parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents are far more likely to turn on you for dating a same-sex partner than your friends would be.

5. Going out in public isn't always a good experience

The first time I held a girl's hand in public, we were walking to a restaurant when a truck pulled up, someone screamed "F*CKING FAGGOTS" and sped off. People stare all the time, everywhere you go with your girlfriend. In bars, when guys hit on you or your partner, they almost never believe you when you tell them that the girl next to you is actually your girlfriend. They don't back off after you tell them, they usually get even pushier or touchier, and sometimes they'll ask for a threesome. There's always a risk of falling victim to violence & hate crimes (yes, this does actually happen). I still sob every time I think about the Orlando shooting. I go to gay bars. My friends go to gay bars. That could have been us.

Not all lesbian couples experience every pro or con on this list; it really depends on the couple. In the end, a girl dating a girl isn't much different from a girl dating a guy. Most of the time with your partner, you're not thinking about the things on the list. You're focusing on each other, just like any other couple would.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

You know that all of these things apply to you. You'll just never tell.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
