The Pros and Cons to Having a Significant Other

Having a significant other can be rewarding and stressful -- in fact, it is often both at once. Some nights sharing a bed feels like a blessing because of the cuddles, but other nights you just want to spread out. Sometimes buying your significant other dinner feels like an honor, and other nights it just feels like a pain in the wallet. It is a constant balancing act, so here are some definite pros and cons to consider before entering into this sort of arrangement.

Pros:

1. You have an unlimited supply of hugs

Sure it's cheesy, but having someone to hug after a long day relieves stress like nothing else.

2. You always have someone in your corner

You have someone who will support you no matter what. They're always there to cheer you on and give you the push you need to achieve your goals.

3. They keep you laughing

A significant other with a compatible sense of humor is endlessly valuable. Having someone around you all the time who can make you laugh makes the bad days better and the good days great.

4. You're never lonely

It can be taxing to be alone, even for the most introverted people. Having someone to talk to and to relieve feelings of isolation whenever you need it can be so important.

5. They buy you stuff

It sounds bad, but it's really nice to be surprised with lunch on an especially busy day or to receive that amazing gift tailored to you by the person who knows you best.

Cons:

1. You have to buy them stuff

As a college student, I know how stressful finances can be. It can be an added stressor to feel pressured to buy your boo gifts all the time.

2. You cant always put yourself first

If you are in a relationship, you most likely entered into it with the understanding that you're supposed to put your partner first sometimes. Whether that means sacrificing your pride and letting them win arguments or giving them your fries even when you're still hungry, you cannot always prioritize yourself anymore.

3. You have to smell their farts

If your significant other gets comfortable enough with you, they will no longer be embarrassed of their flatulence. This means you will have to deal with smelling their farts, or burps, or any other bodily odor they no longer feel pressured to hide.

4. You often have to share your bed

You have to deal with cover hogs, snoring, or perhaps even getting kicked in your sleep. You no longer get to lie like a starfish across the length of your bed, and if you live in a dorm, you might find yourself sharing a twin bed with someone who rolls around in their sleep. You will probably have restless nights.

5. You are not as productive

As much fun as you'll have with your significant other, you will have to sacrifice productivity. You might have to have a movie night when you should be having a homework night due to your significant other feeling sick. You might set out to study but end up goofing off and not actually get any work done.

When you are really feeling it, though, these cons stop actually feeling like cons. Sacrifices are easy to make for the right person.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
