"It's all a part of growing up."

I would hear this every time I made a comment about my schoolwork, my job, or my new responsibilities. We all know the inevitable is that at one point or another, we all grow up. Like many, I am not a fan of this concept. Although there are many pros to transitioning into adulthood, the cons definitely make my perspective shift towards the negative.

Pros:

1. Freedom.

With the freedom that comes with age, you have the ability to do whatever you want, as well as to go wherever you want. Personally, I would love to go to Australia one day. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking.

2. Greater opportunities.

As you grow up, you have the ability to do more, like go to parties, the bars, gamble, and all that jazz. As a kid, you are limited to particular places you are allowed to go. When you are young, you always see adults laughing and enjoying themselves where kids aren't allowed to go.

3. You are your own boss.

Once you grow up, you are in charge of yourself; you don't have to listen to anyone else but you. Growing up you would always hear, "as long as you're under my roof, you follow my rules." Guess what, when you're an adult there is no one to tell you what to do. You are in charge of yourself.

4. Respect!

The respect that you are given due to the fact that you are older than other people. When you are older, you are seen as a little bit wiser and that calls for some to look up to you.

Cons:

1. Responsibilities.

You are responsible for everything including bills, making sure you have food on the table, and that you have a way to pay for everything (hello budgeting!). Your parents or guardians are not there to do everything for you anymore. You are now in charge of all your expenses and to make sure it is all taken care of on time.

2. Having to work.

You need to get a job and sometimes you are stuck with the jobs that stink, either your boss is a jerk or you don't get along with other people. Not everyone is going to like their job or receive their dream job and that is just reality. There will be times where you are stuck in a bad job, but you are forced to stay due to the fact that expenses have to be paid.

3. You're on your own.

You don't get help from anyone else; you're on your own. Like I have stated in the previous points, you are all alone with no one helping you. Your parents or guardians will not always be there to back you up if you cannot pay rent one month. It is your job to take care of your necessities.

4. Greater expectations.

You are expected to act your age, meaning you can't act like a child when you're 25, you must act like an adult. As you grow older, there is this expectation by society that you must act mature. A 25 year old cannot be playing video games 24/7, but instead they need to go out into the world and work a full time job.

I know that there are many more pros and cons to growing up, but these are just a few. Overall, one just has to deal with growing up, because no matter what, it happens to everyone. We all have to grow up sooner or later.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
