Pros And Cons Of Off-Campus Living

Everything about college has pros and cons. One of the most important parts of college life is where you live during your time at college whether it's in an apartment off campus or in a dorm. Here are some pros and cons for each living option, and some gifs to help give you even more of an idea of what it's like.

Pros:

Not as many rules = parties, no curfew/quiet hours, anyone can stay the night, etc

You get your own room so you have more privacy.

You don't have to share wall space so you can decorate to your heart's content.

You can meet more people from different places.

Free parking.

It's usually cheaper than getting a dorm.

You have a kitchen so you can make your own food and don't have to rely on a meal plan.

Free laundry!!

Usually you are allowed to have pets… dogs!!

No having to share a bathroom with the whole floor.

Often times the apartments come with gyms, pools, lounges, etc.

You have your own room so your friends can come over without bothering your roommates.

You can’t have parties in your dorm rooms;)

Cons:

The no rules thing can back fire, people can get very rowdy when you're trying to sleep.

Since there usually aren't quiet hours, drunk people might stomp up the stairs laughing and yelling at 2 a.m.

If you don't have a car then you have to walk far or take the bus, both of those options suck.

If you have to walk or ride the bus you have to wake up extra early because those things take time.

Even though it may cost less, you do have to buy more things like kitchen supplies, groceries, cleaning supplies, etc.

You miss out on a lot of the campus activities/ don't hear about them as much as you would if you lived on campus.

It's a commitment to be a part of activities because you have to find ways to get there.

If you're at a party and live far away then you have to either find a place to stay or uber back to your place because buses don't usually run that late.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
