Pros and Cons of Off and On Campus Eating

779

Some food is very unique to Auburn, while other restaurants are in practically every city.  After being at Auburn for a couple of years, one finds that the selection of restaurants located on and off campus dwindle and become somewhat boring. But in the past two or three years, Auburn has acquired new restaurants on and off campus that have given people more of a variety to choose from. Here are some pros and cons of eating on and off campus at Auburn University. On campus dining has a wide variety of locations and different restaurants or food stations located around campus. The Village Dining Hall, Terrell, Foy, The Student Center and Lupton are all different locations. For on campus students, all of these are in walking distance. Another pro about Auburn dining are the Food Trucks. Along our concourse, Smooth N Groove, Whatchawant, Grilled Cheezy, and General Lee are parked for students to choose from.

A downfall about on campus dining is the hours. All restaurants have peculiar hours, and only a few stay open all day from breakfast to dinner. The Auburn University App that is available for download on phones is big help when viewing dining hours.  Also, the Auburn dining experience on campus is a little different. For instance, the set up in The Village Dining Hall is like a cafeteria, although you purchase everything individually. Swiping in once and filling up your tray is not an option.  Students that live on campus start out with roughly $900, but on campus money goes quickly over the semester.

Moving from a city in Florida where there are many different options and diverse restaurants, I found that Auburn was a little hard to adjust to in the eating department. Most restaurants in Auburn are chains that have very little variety and few healthy options.

Although there are many chain restaurants, there are some individual restaurants that make Auburn special and stand out. Acre, Hamilton’s On Magnolia, Amsterdam Cafe, Moe’s Original BBQ, and Big Blue Bagel & Deli are unique restaurants that come to mind when I think of Auburn. I look forward to eating at these specific restaurants when I come back to school for fall and spring semesters. These restaurants all have diverse menus and are different from the chain fast food restaurant.

Whether living on or off campus, dining can sometimes be the toughest choice you’ll make all day. Between prices, hours and assortment Auburn can be a little tricky at times to find the perfect meal that will hit the spot. But let’s be honest: the dining experience might be a little shaky at times, but remember, Auburn students go to Auburn and love it.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
