College football season is arguably the best time of the year. Between tailgating, homecoming, and parent's weekend, there are many things to look forward to throughout the season. Although the majority of football season is great, there are definitely some downsides that makes getting through the season a bit of a challenge.
Pro: Winning
A plus side of any sports season is being able to attend the games that you win big in. The nail biter games that you come out winning are the best, because they make standing and cheering through the blistering heat/ harsh wind/ freezing cold worth it.
Con: The Weather
Don't get me wrong, I love my football, but there is nothing worse than standing in the freezing cold for so long that you can't feel your toes, or attending a game that's so hot you feel like you could pass out from heat stroke.
Pro: Tailgating
Tailgating is probably one of the best parts of football season. There's absolutely nothing better than hanging out and eating good food with all of your friends and family, while getting pumped up for the game. No matter how early the game, nobody ever misses the opportunity to tailgate.
Con: Game Times
The time of the games always fluctuate throughout the season. With some games starting at noon, and others starting at 7, it's hard planning your day around when the game starts. If a game starts at 2:30, that means you have to be up and ready to tailgate before noon. Also, with most of the major roads shut down during game day, if it's a night game, it makes running errands or getting anything done beforehand hard.
Pro: Homecoming
No matter what college you attend, homecoming is a big deal. Every school has their traditions, and some spend months in preparation for it. During homecoming, the town is flooded with alumni and family members, making tailgating and the game itself more spirited than it usually is. Also, it's a huge celebration once you finally finish pomping the giant house deck.
Con: Tailgating is bad for you
As if the Freshman 15 is hard enough to avoid, tailgating only makes it worse. Any healthy eating or exercise done over the week all goes to waste when you go to a tailgate. Between the grilled food, the drinks, the cheesecake on a stick, none of it is even the slightest bit healthy. (However, tailgating is totally worth being unhealthy).
There are pros and cons to everything, and football season is no exception. However, the pros definitely outweigh the cons and we definitely love our Cowboys.
