There are a ton of videos, articles and papers that tell you what being in a sorority is like. YouTube is filled with videos on what to wear each night, and there are even social media platforms specifically for Greek life. You can teach history of every sorority, but being a sorority girl myself, I would like to provide the blunt truth of what being in a sorority is like. Let's say it's one sister making sure future sisters know what they are getting into.
Pros.
1. You actually gain a ton of genuine friends through forced interactions.
2. Most companies see Greek life as a plus on a resume.
3. We can dress for any event in under five minutes and look bomb.
4. I know my future bridesmaids are my sorority sisters.
5. You are forced to be organized from all the events there are.
6. You never have to spring break by yourself.
7. Having someone to go to margarita Wednesdays with.
8. The Fraternity Gentlemen.
9. Endless amounts of Starbucks/alcohol.
10. Mandatory weekly meetings make you less socially awkward (kinda).
Cons.
1. People expect us to have high personal standards. Like, no, I don't wear makeup to class everyday.
2. The amount of mandatory events is literally insane.
3. It's not cheap.
4. You will eat out so many times a week, you will forget how to cook cereal.
5. You will not become BFFs with every girl.
6. Can you say cat fights?
7. Standards (monitored social media accounts, no table dancing on Tuesday nights, etc).
8. The Fraternity Gentlemen.
9. You will probably gain weight from all the margaritas.
10. Getting in over your head with leadership positions/extra events (remember, you did come here for like, school or something).
Being in a sorority has changed my life, no doubt about it. I will encourage my future children to go Greek, and their children, too. Greek life is 100 percent based on what you put into it, you will get out. Signing up for recruitment should always be one of the first priorities for incoming, prospective new members. If you don't like it, you aren't forced by a blood oath to stay a part of a sisterhood you don't want to be in.
Who knows? You may even get some dope side job writing online articles.
