So as you may know, I went to a fashion show that was entirely set up by students at FIT. This past week, I was lucky enough to get reserved press seating in the second row, right in the middle, but as I was sitting there watching, I started to notice the pros and cons of sitting in the press area with supercritical (who knows what they were), but they were awfully rude. SO HERE ARE A FEW PRO'S AND CONS ABOUT SITTING NEXT TO AWFULLY RUDE PROFESSIONALS(?)
1. I definitely learned first hand what needs "special" attention when planning everything for a show
The one guy to my right was complaining way too much about how grainy the PowerPoint, which played before the show while we were all being seated, was. I was seriously itching to give him a piece of my mind, but I didn't.
I can't help but still be angry over this, partially because I got a small look into what it's like to be in Runway 27, and partially because the entire event was run by FULL-TIME fashion students, which is hard enough as it is just being a student. They take the time out of their already hectic and stressful life to put on a show every year which always turns out absolutely amazing.
2. Sometimes, notes are absolutely useless
One of the people next to me was actually taking some notes when the show started, but as soon as it got into full swing, it was literally useless. Less appreciation for the actual art of design and more on critiquing and doing something insane for them? I dunno what these notes are but most definitely it's not even worth trying to take some sort of notes, which at the end, was exactly what happened from taking notes on every little detail to giving in and just enjoying the show.
3. From one point of the show to the next, the thoughts on every aspect of the show change in a matter of seconds
One moment, they're complaining about every little thing involving the show, the next, they're nodding in appreciation and complementing the way the clothing looks against the lights and how well the music fits. I just don't understand why they can't just express the small moments of appreciation instead expressing their disgust of.... the power point being too grainy. What is the point? What is their reasoning?
4. You definitely get a feel for how people think involving the shows
At one end, you have the super appreciative, super positive guest, at the other, you have all negativity, even though they actually liked the show itself. The range of comments you hear can bring on a range of emotions, but it's just one of those things which... like everything else in the world, they don't matter as much as they might seem to.
This went from an article on pros and cons of a fashion show, to more of a rant, but it was definitely worth writing.
