Ahh, summer. What a wonderful time to be alive. But with summer comes no school, and with no school comes moving home. Here are the pros and cons of being home for the sunshine season.
The pros:
1. Being reunited with your family
Nothing is better than being home and back with your family. Well, maybe taking a family vacation, but this goes hand in hand with summer at home on the weekends with the fam.
2. Being reunited with your friends
After college everyone has gone their separate ways and that means having friends attending different universities out of state. There is nothing better than being reunited with them when they are home for the summer.
3. The food
Don’t get me wrong, I definitely miss those 2 a.m. pizza places and late night Conrad’s runs, but nothing beats moms home cooked meals or Coney Island or that favorite sushi place you and your friends always used to go to in high school.
4. The peace of sleeping in your own bed
Goodbye twin XL beds at school, hello queen sized bed at home.
5. Not having to do your own laundry
Doing laundry may not be that hard, but walking into the room and having your laundry nicely folded on your bed is definitely easier.
6. A break from “adulting”
Even though having a summer job and taking summer classes is still part of adulting, it is still better than paying bills and taking break from “adulting” like tasks.
7. Unlimited food supply
Being home for the summer means the refrigerator and cabinets will always be stocked with your favorite food because your mom is just that happy and excited to have you home after 8 long months of being away at school.
The cons:
1. Answering the dreaded question of “what do you want to do after college?”
I wish I could answer that question, but even I don’t know what I want to do after college, so please stop asking.
2. Running into people from high school
Being in your hometown definitely means running into all those people you went to high school with but never talked to anymore. You can run into them at the grocery store, the gym, or even your favorite restaurant.
3. Not having your friends living right by you
Going to college means having all your friends in your favorite place, but coming home means everyone lives 2 hours away from you and therefore you're left all alone in your hometown to entertain yourself.
4. No longer being your own boss
One of the great things about college is having your own freedom and being your own boss. But being back home usually means having to follow your parents' rules and curfew timings
5. No place to hangout
Being on college campus there are a million things and places you can hangout at, but the only place to hangout in your hometown is your nearest Starbucks or the mall.
6. Summer expectations never live up to reality
Before summer I pictured spending it with friends and having lazy days at the beach, but all I have done so far is be in my pajamas until 2 p.m. and watch Netflix.
7. You miss your friends and campus
After some point being home, you’re going to start missing all your college friends and the beauty of your campus because being back in your hometown just isn’t the same as it used to be.
