11 Promises To My Roommate

I feel like it was just a couple days ago that we were walking into our first day of freshman year of high school. In a few short days, we'll be moving into our college dorm together.

A lot has happened these past four years, but I cannot wait to start these next four years with you! Here are a few things I promise to you:

1. I promise to always be there for you.

Whether it is two in the morning before a big test or eight in the morning when you are struggling to wake up for class, I will be there.

2. I promise to only play my country music when you are not in the room.

I know you hate it, but I will never stop loving it! I will try my best not to expose you to it.

3. I promise to help you make 500 flash cards for all of your nursing tests.

I know sometimes your major will get difficult, but I will always help you study.

4. I promise to never let you skip a class.

College is expensive. We don't pay thousands of dollars a year to fail a class. You can count on me to drag you all the way to your 8 a.m. class.

5. I promise not to get mad at you for wanting to go home a lot.

I know you will miss your family and being home so know that it is okay to do that as much as you need. Just remember I will always be there when you get back.

6. I promise to go to all the football games with you.

Probably the best part of fall!!

7. I promise not to be loud and obnoxious when you are trying to sleep or study.

The truth is I will probably be sleeping 100% of the time, but I will be respectful if I am not sleeping.

8. I promise not to be a slob... all of the time.

I will always try to clean things up, but I am not gonna lie I will get busy and forget to make my bed or take out the trash every once in awhile.

9. I promise to always binge watch Netflix with you.

Does this even need an explanation? Netflix is always the answer.

10. I promise to make our dorm feel like home.

After the countless hour spent on Pinterest and online shopping, our dorm will feel like we never even left home.

11. I promise to always be your friend.

Even if we get mad at each other from time to time, you can always count on me to be there and be your friend. Wesley will be full of unfamiliar faces, but I will never let you feel alone. We have spent so much time talking about college and all of the things we might experience. I know we are ready and I know we can do this together. So I promise you all of these things, but most importantly, I promise everything will be okay. Love you forever!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
