5 Promises To My Little Sister
Jasmine Somers

As your big sister, I'm always going to love you, I'm always going to be your number one fan, and I'm always going to do whatever it takes to make sure you're smiling. I know we're going to fight, and I know we don't always get along, but these are my five promises to you that I intend to keep until the end of time.

1. Your secrets will always be my secrets.

Whether it’s that you failed your most recent test or you spent the evening with a boy you like, I won’t ever tell anyone the things you confess to me. I want you to know that you can come to me with any problem or situation and I will hold your words dear to me as if they were my own. Every girl deserves someone who they can confess their worlds too. As you get older, know I will always be that girl for you, and that your secrets are safe with me.

2. You'll never have to worry about having a best friend.

You need to go shopping because you’re upset? I’m there. A fight with mom because she won’t let you go out? I’m there. A boy broke your heart? I’m there. I’m sure you’re going to have wonderful friends who will have your back when you need them, but if they ever fail you I’m here to promise you I won’t. Whether it’s 12 p.m. or 12 a.m., I’m going to be right there for you. Your friends are going to come and go for a while, but I’m never going to leave your side.

3. I'm always going to take care of you and be THAT annoying big sister.

Even when we’re both old with families, I will still be your big sister and I’m still going to be looking out for you. At times I know you’re going to hate it, because I’m going to constantly insist you take my advice or my money or whatever it is I think you need but it’s all because I care about you. Even those times I’m wiping food off of your mouth or fixing your outfit in public, it’s out of love. I want your life to be amazing and wonderful and I will do whatever it takes to see that through, no matter how small or big the task.

4. When they break your heart I'll hold you tighter than they ever could.

People suck, and one day you’ll know exactly what I mean. But the day someone turns around and shatters your heart, I’ll be beside you to pick up the pieces and remind you it’s going to be okay. Sometimes we let the wrong people into our lives, and that’s okay. And it’s okay to be upset when they hurt us. Just know you’re going to have someone to get you through those times. And even when you feel like no one understands, I’ll be there to try and show you how to open back up again.

5. I'll never judge you.

No matter how many mistakes you make or how bad you think you’ve messed up, I won’t ever judge you for what you have done. It’s more than likely I’ve made that same mistake too. Everybody messes up, you’re only human. When you think you’ve done something so incredibly stupid that you think you’ve ruined your life, I’ll be the one who tells you that yeah, what you did was stupid, but it’s going to be okay. No matter what the situation is I’ll help you through it and we’ll figure it out, I’d never look at you differently. At the end of the day you’re always going to be my little sister and I’ll love you all the same.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
