Promises For A New Year

How often do you really complete a new year's resolution?

Every year we all make resolutions for the new year, attempt them for maybe a week, and then give up on them. It is nearly impossible to make a complete lifestyle change overnight, and no one should. How often do we really complete a new year's resolution? The best way to make resolutions happen is by going about them slowly. Start out small and slow until it becomes easier and eventually a habit. There are so many different resolutions out there, but, whatever they are, just remember the only reason you need to change anything is to be better for yourself. Feel free to borrow some of my resolutions because I believe they are important in leading a more fulfilling life.

I will lead a healthier lifestyle. That means not ordering pizza once a week. I should stay away from the foods that I am sensitive to, which means no gluten, dairy or eggs. A healthier lifestyle doesn’t necessarily mean dieting, but it does mean drinking more water and not eating 20 chocolate bars a day. Eating healthier can help improve my lifestyle and make me feel better overall.

I will get in shape. It's not just about losing a certain amount of weight. It would be nice to lose a few pounds, and hopefully, I will lose some weight as I go through the journey. The main goal is just to feel good in my body and be able to go hiking in Ecuador without huffing and puffing after 2 minutes.

I will not binge watch any shows or movies. Anyone who knows me can say that I am addicted to Netflix. Like not leave the room for 2 days addicted. So, I will try to watch less TV and spend more time reading, writing, doing homework, being with friends, or being active.

I will procrastinate less. It is impossible to say that I will stop procrastinating completely, but I will work on making sure I don’t stress myself out so much that I cannot even function. My promise to not binge watch Netflix will also make procrastinating harder.

I will break out of my comfort zone. Being stuck in a small bubble seems to be a habit of mine. I tend to stick to what I’m used to and not branch out. This year I promise to try new things, with new people, all the time.

I will focus on strengthening and forming friendships. Friends are such an important part of my life. Having people there to support and care for you make a world of difference during every part of your life. Making sure that I take the time to be with friends and family can make me, and others feel better.

I will love myself and take more time for me. My self-confidence is always a little low, or a lot lower than it should be. This year I will dedicate to learn to love myself for who I am, whoever that may be. As should you.

Happy New Year!! Good luck with your new year.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
