As prom season approaches, I can't help but replay my many memories of the special day. Take it from someone who has been in your same shoes; let the day unfold on its own, and go with the flow. Take this advice, and your special day will be one you won't soon forget
Girls, let's be honest, there's nothing that compares to that sweet, sweet feeling of getting all dolled up. The whole thing is perfect: the dress, the shoes, the curls, everything! Just don't get too caught up in the moment that you forget to enjoy every second of it. You've set high expectations for the day, and your day will live up to your every expectation IF you let it. Hear me out.
There are going to be those little things you didn't plan on; don't let them be the rain that ruins your parade. I promise nobody notices the one falling curl. Sure, it's annoying, but it's all in your head. And the tiny snag in your dress, well it's tiny. It only looks ginormous to you. And a little heads up, your heels are going to sink into the ground. It's okay; let it happen and wipe them off when you get inside. Take it all for what it's worth, and move on.
It's also really important to keep in mind that this is your date's prom, too. Compliment his tux. Thank him for your meal. He didn't have to take you to the fancy-schmancy restaurant, but he did. And know this is totally out of his comfort zone; appreciate his effort, because he's doing it all for you.
Boys, get ready to smile, because you're about to take more pictures than you ever thought possible. You don't have to like it, but you do have to at least pretend you do. Complaining about the millions of selfies will get you nowhere, boys. The quicker you cooperate, the quicker it will all be over.
It may seem a little odd when I say this, but ask your date to the dance floor. I know what you're thinking: "If we don't dance then what will we do at a prom?" The answer is nothing. You will do absolutely nothing, but for some reason, it's acceptable to do nothing. Most guys think the only way to look cool is to stand around and avoid the dance floor, but this is so far from the truth. Ask her to dance. You'll have fun, and when everyone else sees how much fun you're having, they'll join in. Prom is about making lasting memories, so find your rhythm and beat and get to it!
Last but not least, if you don't take any of my advice, take this: tell your date how beautiful she looks. It's not every day she gets to play princess. She wants to feel special, and you have the capabilities of helping her reach that status. Tell her that her dress is the prettiest, her hair is the best, and her makeup is the perfect finishing touch.
Happy prom season, everyone! Enjoy your day, and make the most of it. Oh, and please be safe!
