I Am A Progressive, And I Understand Trump Supporters.
Huffingtonpost.com

Let me first explain something. I do not understand the “Deplorables” as Hillary Rodhman Clinton has called them. I do not understand the racist, sexist, hateful people that are voting for Donald Trump because of his hateful rhetoric. I understand the Trump supporters because many of them are tired of the establishment. They are tired of Corporate Americas strangle-hold on our great country, and our sham of a Democracy.

Our country has a dirty history of stomping on the working class. Perhaps not as much as many other countries around the world, but we cannot pretend that we are the best and the greatest anymore. Some countries are trying to move their people into a new technological clean, and fair future, and America is not. Inflation rises much faster than minimum wage in America. Our jobs are getting shipped away, our unions are dismantled, and our students are being used as some kind of debt cattle. Trump supporters have every reason to be upset at the current established order, just like the rest of us. Never mind the clear white supremacy undertone (which is of course deplorable) coming from many of them, the grievances about our Democratic system, our media, and our politicians is very well deserved. The media, the politicians, and the corporate giants of the world are all in cahoots with each other, to maintain monopolies and the current socioeconomic system, all at the expense you and me, white black or brown. This is not good for the American people. It’s worse for some groups, but it’s not good for any of us outside the “Big Boys Club” as I call it.

I asked myself the other day, who is really to blame for the rise of Trump? I blame myself. I blame the progressives of this country. We trusted in our Democracy, when we knew we shouldn’t have. Our revolution wasn’t strong enough to beat the corruption, and we were too patient. Now the disenfranchised white conservatives (i know, I almost could not believe is said that either) of the nation are rallying to Trump, with the belief that he will bring about change. While they are wrong on the details, and on the candidate, they have every reason to be upset with this current system as well. Many of them don’t understand what’s going on exactly, and even more have no idea what to actually do to fix this, but they are trying much harder than we are. A trump presidency will probably be horrific, and have terrible consequences to the people of America and to the world, in much of the way that Hitler’s rise to power did. Trump supporters are right about one thing. There is something terribly wrong with this country.

I want Trump supporters to know that I understand. I see what has happened to you. While we will greatly disagree on the details, we can both agree that we are all being screwed over, and we have to push back. But I must express to you that Trump is not the answer to fighting the establishment. He is the establishment. Do not let that man make things worse for all of us. I respect your grievances, and your voice. All of us united together can make things better. We can create change. Real change. Donald Trump is not that change. Donald Trump will kill what’s left of this beautiful country.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
