This summer while I was thinking of college and all the activities I want to partake in. I knew that I wanted to join clubs in the college that I am in, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. When I got to college, CANR put on a colloquium to welcome all incoming students. At this colloquium, all the clubs within CANR were trying to get prospects. One specific table caught my attention: Sigma Alpha.
Sigma Alpha is a women's professional sorority in Agriculture. It was started in 1978 at Ohio State University (yes, I know "that school"). Since then, Sigma Alpha has grown to 60 collegiate chapters and 32 alumni chapters. Michigan State University's chapter is Sigma Alpha Gamma. Sigma Alpha is not a part of MSU's "Panhellenic" Greek life.
I never really thought that I could belong to a typical sorority. I felt that sororities are made up of stuck up girls that like to party and to be honest, they are really expensive. I did not want to spend thousands of dollars a year to be a part of a sorority. I am not bashing other sororities, but I just do not see myself doing that.
I believe that Sigma Alpha is the perfect fit for me. As an Animal Science major, this is a sorority that will have my back 100%. There are so many girls that have taken the same courses as me and who can help me find internships and jobs. Plus, the networking that I can get through this sorority is crazy.
Now, all I have to do is get through this 6 weeks before activation and really get a chance to bond with my *hopeful* future sisters.
