I know we're taught never to judge a book by its cover, but we do. For the young professional, dressing for success is essential for earning respect in the workplace.

It can be intimidating seeing people wearing perfectly coordinated outfits while confidently giving a presentation, delegating the workload or poised at their desks ready to take on the world.

But it doesn't have to be.

Here are some ways that you can dress for success...and on a budget!

1. Versatility

Take a look at your closet. For any one shirt or pair of pants, how many outfits can you arrange with it? If the answer is less than five, then you may need to revamp your wardrobe. Solid colors or classic patterns are best because they can be stylized with cardigans, blazers, necklaces and scarves. A few staple pieces with an arsenal of accessories mean you can enter the war room knowing you look your best.

2. Thrift Stores

Thrift stores are amazing for finding staple pieces on a tight budget. Goodwill, Plato's Closet, boutique secondhand stores, consignment sales. No shame in this thrift game. Get your glam on without breaking the bank!

3. Simple Makeup

When your main priority is your to-do list, skip the contour and fancy eyes to go with a more simplistic and natural look. Foundation, mascara, lipstick. Your bank account and sleep deprived body will thank you later.

4. Longevity

Whatever you buy, consider it an investment. Will it go out of style by next season? Or can you change the accessories to make it work? Buy clothes expecting them to be in your closet for AT LEAST THREE YEARS. This way, you only have to buy clothes when absolutely needed. By the time you need to refresh your wardrobe, it'll be way more fun because you'll have saved so much over the years!

There you have it, four awesome tips that I personally use when shopping for professional clothes (and even personal wardrobe). Now go shop, look amazing and dominate the workplace with elegant confidence!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.
