I must be in the wrong business and profession. When I see and hear these professional athletes getting paid big bucks, I question and ask myself, how? Why?
Are these athletes worth it of getting paid top money, when you have law enforcers who give up and risk their lives to save others along with firefighters. Let's take an athlete for an example, Derek Jeter. According to baseballreference.com, in his 20 seasons of playing professional major league baseball, his total salary at the end of his career turned out to be over 260 million dollars. I understand the importance he is as an athlete, but in all reality, 260 million dollars?
That to me is a bit too much for athletes, even if they are important top professional athletes. When I hear about money like that, the first thing that comes to my attention is how countries around the world could certainly use money like that for its people. The ones going through the poverty life, struggling to live each and every day.
I feel as if professional athletes and their contracts could come to agreements and possibly consider how much players can make salary wise. Of course as a player, the more money the better. In my honest opinion, and many of you can argue and debate the topic, but I feel as if the pay for athletes have gone up in the air and will be a case that many agents who work on contracts will sit down and talk about in the future.
