Summer has just about begun and it's time to think about how you'll spend it. Your classmates may be off travelling or doing internships but hey, it's 2017. It’s time to step up those summer plans.
1. Volunteer
Volunteer. Volunteering somewhere over summer is always a great way to improve a community and it's a nice addition to grad school and job applications. Hours are pretty easy and the work is rewarding. Look for nonprofits, animal shelters or hospitals near you for open spaces.
2. Start a big project
This is your chance to take advantage of the free time you have to accomplish, or at least begin, an activity that requires plenty of time. Try writing a book, learning to play an instrument, or teaching yourself how to surf. Any project that you've been itching to do but haven't had the time for will be a great way to spend summer.
3. Take some classes at a community college
Summer classes in four-year universities can be pretty expensive so take advantage of a nearby community college. You can take classes for credits, for fun, or just to brush up on information you already know.
4. Readjust your lifestyle
As we all know, school can often invoke havoc on our well-being. Take the summer as your opportunity to fix your sleep schedule, introduce an exercise regimen or start up a new habit. Although it may not occupy you for the whole summer, this is one of few times you have to readjust a part of your life without the stress and time crunch if school.
5. Get a job
Whether or not you need the money, it's never a bad idea to have a job. You'll have more experience to add to your resume and it's a great place to meet new people and learn new skills.
6. Explore opportunities at school
Finally, explore opportunities your school may have. Professors may be doing research you can join in on, clubs can still have events going, and workshops can still be running. Summer is a good time to take advantage of lesser known activities.
