I've been playing The Sims 4 since practically it was released but have been part of the Simming community, the group of sims players (or simmers) who big fans of the games before I even had a PC that could handle The Sims 3. Even though I love the games and the franchise itself I, like many other simmers, have problems with not only the game but also so people who are part of the community. Though, the Simming community isn't as problematic as other gaming communities can be there are a few outliers who can really put a damper on the new simmers recently getting into the franchise. Along, with that, the game itself isn't perfect.
The Re-branding
The Sims 4 is about to celebrate its fifth birthday in the upcoming weeks and the Sims Team, the developers, has given us a new look for The Sims 4. Which most, if not all, of the community hated. The old look was clean and slick using white and Plumbob green accent on both the home screen and loading screen. This re-branding essentially removed most of the white and added a bright blue, the colors clashing is one thing, but this made it difficult for people with color blindness to see and caused eye strain for others. It was also an eyesore for the rest of the community. However, in the most recent patch the team "fixed" the issue by switching to a darker blue, many people and me including wished they could have kept the old look. Don't fix something that isn't broke right? But I'll give the Sims Team the benefit of the doubt, and say it was probably a higher-up in EA who wanted this new look and forced the team's hand to make this change. But either way, we hate it and we're stuck with it
"We Want University"
As of when I am writing this The Sims 4 has announced its newest game pack "Realm of Magic" is going to be released in a couple of weeks. Though many simmers are excited about the new pack, a large group keeps saying the same thing: "We want University". The Sims 4 University pack has not been announced yet and The Sims 3 University is arguably one of the best Sims 3 packs. University is one of the main packs of The Sims franchise, a pack that is seen in some variation between games all or most of the games. The Sims 4 already has a Pets and a Seasons pack, but University is still in the works. However, my main point here that I am trying to get to is that with The Sims 3 University took four years to come out after the release of the base game. It is safe to say that within the next year or two University can come out but we as a community need to be patient because we don't want another My First Pet Stuff.
My First Pet Stuff
This is the stuff pack that almost killed stuff packs. My First Pet Stuff came out a few weeks after Cats and Dogs, the Pets pack for The Sims 4, and in this pack added clothing, furniture, and other items geared for cats and dogs. But you also needed Cats and Dogs to use all the items in My First Pet Stuff. This is why we, as a community, should not rush the Sims Team to come out with more packs because we'll get crappy empty packs that need an extra pack to make it complete. Because no one likes a DLC for a DLC. But seriously why Sims Team? Why? This was such a bad idea.
Back in The Sims 2 (or 3)....
Though these games are in order chronologically, most of them follow some sort of lore...until you get to The Sims 4. The Sims 4 is different from the rest of the franchise lore-wise and since it is the current ongoing game and we need to remember that. The Sims Team has even said before that there are still years of content they are planning or working on for The Sims 4, so comparing it currently to The Sims 2 or 3 (both filled with content from over the years) is really unfair, because 4 doesn't have all of its packs out yet. Plus let's not forget The Sims 3 had The Sims 3 store where you can buy, with real money, so many mini-packs, which added tons of content. Like I said unfair comparison.
The Sims 4 Gameplay Seems so Empty
Look back at the point above, especially The Sims 3 store section.
Making Items From Get To Work Free
Get To Work was the first expansion pack for The Sims 4 and there has been a trend over the last few years where items or even skills from this pack is taken out and given to all players in the base game. This really sucks for the players who bought Get To Work and had it for years and knowing that they paid for this content before it became free is a punch to the gut. Hopefully, they will stop doing this or at least lower the price of the pack because it's starting to get a bit ridiculous.
