Summer...
That glorious time of year when the sun is out, and you are out of school. You feel as though everything is bound to be perfect, for you have no responsibilities. Since we have all this time we can have amazing adventures with friends and do whatever we want. Wrong! Unless you are in a movie this is not how summers work. There is no such thing as perfect summer plans. Making summer plans is honestly as painful as making plans during the rest of the year. Let's face it. No matter how empty people's schedules appear to be, it is still very difficult. I blame several aspects on not being able to make summer plans: The summer job, other plans/vacations, lack of communication, and last but not least being too lazy.
Most of us rather in high school or in college get a summer job. We all get these summer jobs so we can have a little extra money coming our way. We plan on using this money for college tuition or for making awesome summer plans. However, we never get to the summer plans because we are always working or your best friends work schedule is the complete opposite of yours. The more people you want to hang with the harder it gets, because normally in friend groups only one person doesn't work, and we all envy their glorious free time.
Since it's summer most normal families plan summer vacations. Those family vacations are normally a week long, so that also makes making plans near impossible. I mean, hardly anyone is going to pass a week at the beach with their family paying to hang out with your high school friends for only one day. Most of the time you don't know your friends are even going on a week long vacation until you see the pictures of them on Snapchat or Instagram at the beach.
Yeah, your friends went to the beach without telling you. Lack of communication sucks. Most young adults still live with our parents during the summers, so all the sudden when you have taken the time to make plans with friends, someone springs a family reunion or some other event on you. Then you have to go with your parents regardless since you live under their roof. Another lack of communication comes from making the plans, but not being specific or setting a date. Everyone who is going gets the dates confused because of the lack of setting an internal calendar for yourself in the summer.
Last but not least, we are too lazy. We all set aside a list of things that we want to do for the summer, but they never get accomplished. We get used to sleeping in and working late shifts, but we neglect so much responsibility. Let's face it most of summer is spent sleeping, watching Netflix, or playing on our phones. If you really want to have great summer plans, make them in detail before summer!
