Recently, I have seen more and more people sharing unworthy causes using GoFundMe's and other means of raising online funds to solve a problem. While I'm a believer in coming together as a community, group and or nation, I do have a problem with people taking advantage of these resources as a way to earn 'free money.' I do not pity you.

First off, there is a very large difference between a notable cause and your vacation. While I am a college student and I do completely understand the concept of having zero dollars to your name, a GoFundMe to help you plan your vacation or to help you fix your broken laptop does not and will not ever tug on my heartstrings. A boy who is suffering from childhood cancer or a wife that has passed unexpectedly who has left a family without the means to pay for her funeral will get my money before I even consider donating to your vacation fund. When I choose to donate to a cause, I don't always have the spare change. But when I begin to think that I can easily spend $5 on a coffee, that $5 could easily go to a family who lost their home in a fire. Every bit helps. If 100 people each give $10, we have easily raised $1,000 and I was happy to go without a beverage or a Panera salad.

However, I have no sympathy or desire to donate to those with a cause that is unnecessary. As a college student, I work full-time and I'm a full-time student. I'm not asking for a pat on the back or a reward. But I have made the sacrifice to work more than I go out because there are things in this world that I need to pay for and that I want to pay for. When I work a minimum paying job and can say I pay for certain things by myself, there is a sense of self-accomplishment. With hard work, dedication, determination and time management skills, you too can work to pay for whatever you broke or to go on that trip.

If you are someone who has made a GoFundMe with a reason that is not worthy (and if you have to ask yourself if it is or not, it's not) please think twice next time you attempt to use the internet as your income. I understand working with school is difficult, but it's possible. If there's one thing college should've taught you by now, it's that if you put in the effort, you will see a result. Sitting at your desk watching your 'funds donated' bar increase, is not a means of work. And if you are so willing to ask people for money when you believe you need it most, would you be willing to do the same if the roles were reversed? I wouldn't be surprised if you said no.

So please, do not ask me to donate to your unworthy cause. I have no patience for those who do not work, who do not really work to succeed. After all, if you really want something in this world, you're going to have to go out and work for it on your own.

I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

College students, you might be able to relate to this one. These probably sound familiar because we often tell ourselves these phrases; however, we are unable to follow or agree with these the following, deep down inside of our overwhelmed, tired minds.

1. "No more spending money on useless things"

Until you walk into a 99 cents store and suddenly have the urge to pick up anything that's less than a dollar.
