The Problem Isn't JUST Donald Trump, It's Also The Culture We've Created

We live in a world where people like Trump are encouraged.

**Alert: Strong, passionate anti-Trump feelings are contained in the following piece. Read at your own risk.**

I'll be the first person to admit that I don't know all that much about politics. It was a big deal for me when I watched the most recent presidential debate. Although I am slowly trying to learn more about politics and become more educated about certain issues, it takes longer than one conversation with a politically educated person or one debate to figure this stuff out. It's heavy, and quite frankly it bores me to talk about the economy and immigration. I know those topics are important; they're just not something I incorporate into many of my conversations. When the topic of politics comes up, I tend to automatically tune out.

However, it doesn't matter whether or not you know what Obamacare did or how much national debt we have in order to know that Donald Trump is not fit to be President. By this point, and with the stories and videos that have come forward, it should be obvious to everyone. I am actually speechless that there are still Trump supporters out there. Even more speechless when I learned that Donald Trump supporters are tweeting to REPEAL THE LEGISLATION THAT GAVE HALF THE POPULATION THE RIGHT TO VOTE in order that Trump would be President. There are absolutely no words that will accurately describe how disgusted with, confused by, and shocked at the country I was when I found that out.

I believe one of the largest roots of the problem of Trump still having supporters is the men out there that are just as twisted as him. This in no way applies to every man--there are plenty of men out there who see the things he did and continues to do to women as disgusting and wrong. But there are also men out there who simply don't see it as a big deal that Trump has degraded women based on physical appearance, as well as sexually assaulted and threatened them (not to mention that Trump was MARRIED when these events took place). There are men that agree with so much of what Trump does that they brush who he actually is as a person under the rug. There are also women who might minimize it. The culture we are living in today blames women again and again for sexual assault, acting as though they brought it upon themselves. It quite possibly could be engrained in some of these women's minds that sexual assault is not that big of a deal, which breaks my heart.

There are also people who think that Hillary Clinton's email scandal and a few things she has said are worse than SEXUAL ASSAULT. Let that sink in. And then remember that there is never going to be a President that is perfect and that pleases everyone. There is no way to be a President who is liked by everyone. But sexual assault and racism go above and beyond being "unlikeable" and the right to sending our country a century back progress-wise. Donald Trump rating women on a 1-10 scale of appearance goes beyond "making a mistake" and the right to the unrealistic expectations that are put on women that women and men all around the country are trying to change on a daily basis. It goes deep down in the root of sexism and sees women as only being valuable when they are easy on the eyes. It is downright unacceptable. Believing all Syrian refugees are dangerous goes right beyond "protective" and straight to a scapegoat. And I know for a fact that if Hillary was disrespectful to men, she would've been gone years ago. But because certain men think they are the superior gender, we have Donald Trump as a Presidential candidate despite his actions and comments.

Until our country comes together to truly change our remaining tendencies toward racism and sexism, people like Donald Trump will continue to be admired and seen as acceptable. And possibly even become President. We have got to keep teaching love, acceptance, equality of genders, religions, and races, and sexuality, if we ever hope to change the course of history for good. We also have to rely on the grace of God to change hearts into hearts that will follow Him rather than the world, and pray that people like Donald Trump will come to know Him.

Donald Trump has lied, made sexist comments, sexually assaulted women, and given racist remarks. His words may deny accusations, but his actions and the stories from others speak to who he truly is. He is not the only issue, though. A larger problem is found when we look at the people of this country who continue to support him and give him the power he has.

I can only pray that everyone will see that Donald Trump belongs in jail and not in the Oval Office.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
