27 Signs You Go To Mizzou

If you’re a student at the University of Missouri, you know that it’s a special place.

Because of this, you’re probably a Mizzou student if…

  1. You have at least one Instagram picture of the Quad.
  2. You know that late nights are meant to be spent in Greektown.
  3. And weekend mornings can only take place surrounded by friends at Dobb’s brunch.
  4. You can spot the difference between gold and yellow from a mile away.
  5. You know that the only thing greater than SEC football is SEC tailgates.
  6. And you have enough black and gold outfits planned out for every single one of them.
  7. You know who Sandy from Plaza is and you think she’s awesome.
  8. It doesn’t matter if Mizzou isn’t in the same division as KU anymore, because you'll hate them no matter what.
  9. You think that having a Starbucks in the Memorial Union instead of the Student Center is incredibly inconvenient, but you still make the hike over to the opposite side of campus anyways.
  10. The only time you can ever use an elliptical at the Rec is at the crack of dawn or an hour before it closes.
  11. You have at least one friend that’s a journalism major from out-of-state.
  12. You’ve mastered the art of avoiding eye contact while walking through Speaker’s Circle.
  13. And you’ve also had to deal with people avoiding your eye contact while working at a booth in Speaker’s Circle.
  14. You appreciate the finer things in life (a.k.a. toasted ravioli from the dining halls).
  15. You know more than you ever wanted to know about St. Louis high schools.
  16. You brag to all of your friends that your college invented homecoming.
  17. The thought of registering for classes sends you into full-on panic mode.
  18. You believe it’s socially acceptable to climb onto a statue of a tiger and take pictures.
  19. And jump into fountains.
  20. Oh and yell, “I love Mizzou” in Speaker’s Circle.
  21. You never get tired of walking past Memorial Union, Jesse Hall, or the Columns.
  22. Although you’ve spent countless hours in Ellis Library, you’re not really sure how, or if you even can, check out a book.
  23. You don’t mind gaining the Mizzou 22 when it’s from Baja.
  24. You have strong opinions about Chicago, Kansas City, and St. Louis sports teams.
  25. You sometimes like to pretend that Missouri is in the South even though it could not be more in the Midwest.
  26. You place more faith into rubbing a nose on a statue than studying when it comes to finals week.
  27. And you constantly brag to all of your friends about your school, because who wouldn’t want to call the University of Missouri home?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
