October is the most fun month to be a BYU student! Everyone goes crazy for fall weather and Halloween, meaning plenty of fun activities all month. There's more to fall than pumpkin spice lattes and cozy sweaters. From BYU Homecoming week to Halloween night, here are eight fun things to do in Provo this month.
- Haunted houses Utah knows how to do haunted houses right! The Nightmare on 13th, one of the best haunted houses in America, is a short drive or train ride away in Salt Lake City. More locally, check out the Haunted Circus in Draper, or the Haunted Forest in American Fork. These are definitely more fun with a big group, and most haunted houses offer discounts if you bring 20+ people.
- Halloween parties Halloweekend is always packed with costume-themed dance parties. One of the biggest ones happens on Center Street in downtown Provo, this year happening on Oct. 31, with over 7,000 people expected to attend. Admission is free and it's always a good time.
- Pumpkin Patches/Farms Carving pumpkins is an essential part of October, and there are many amazing pumpkin patches and farms to visit near Provo! Black Island Farms is home to the largest corn maze in Utah, with pumpkin patches and a haunted maze. Visiting during the day is the perfect place to pick out a pumpkin to carve, and go on a hayride.
- Cornbelly's located at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, there is a huge corn maze that is fun to go to during the day, and at night turns into Insanity Point, filled with jump scares and some crazy haunted mazes that open this month, it's the perfect place to go with a date or group of friends!
- Food Truck Roundup This is the perfect month to check out the food truck roundup. Located across the street from the FrontRunner station, it has amazing street tacos and unique foods that change every week. It's always on Thursday nights, so it's a good way to get you through the end of the school week.
- Football games October means BYU homecoming week, and no doubt the most exciting football game of the season! Although it's already passed this month, it's something to plan for next year. BYU has upcoming home football games this month, the next one on Oct. 24 against Wagner! There is really no comparison for the experience of being in the student section for a BYU game, so be sure to check it out.
- Hikes October is the perfect month to go hiking, as the leaves finally change to fall colors and it gets colder. Surrounded by mountains, there are plenty of easy, fun hikes to try. I recommend Stewart Falls, an easy hike up by Sundance ski resort, leading to a really amazing view and a waterfall you can walk under. Other great hikes include Bridal Veil falls, up Provo canyon, and hiking the Y, which is no doubt one of the best views of the valley.
- The Velour The Velour Live Music Gallery is an amazing, personal music venue in downtown Provo. They have a lot of amazing fall concerts coming up almost every night of the week, including indie-pop DeadTooth Oct.17, Pop-Americana Westward the Tide Oct. 23, and The Blue Aces Oct.24. They are also having a costumed concert on October 31! Be sure to check it out if you're into lesser-known bands (and cheap tickets).
Have a great month everyone! Have a spooky Halloween!
