Priorities. This word is defined as the things that someone cares about and think are important. When I think of priorities, it elevates my anxiety. This word shakes me to the core. Why do I feel that my priorities are not in line with the direction that God has in store for me?
Throughout my life, I have gone through many trials and tribulations. I have endured childhood cancer and survived many hardships within my life. While these events have broken me, I am grateful for these events. These events have molded me into the young adult I am today. I am not the most responsible adult, but I have learned that to become successful there are three qualities that are needed. Self-discipline, dedication and determination are needed to become successful.
While everyone is entitled to believe in whomever they choose, I have found calmness and support within my relationship with God. Even though I am at a place of happiness and joy, I have not always portrayed these emotions. I have also not demonstrated the three qualities to become successful. My life did not start to fall into place until I realized my priorities were not in line with God's purpose for me.
This past Sunday, Pastor Marty discussed that our priorities are changing every single day. Even though our priorities are changing, our top three should always consist of God, yourself and your future. Below is my interpretation of these priorities:
1. Put God First
This priority is the hardest to swallow. Putting the Lord first is always difficult. But in order for me to ensure that my life is on the correct path, I have to follow the path of the Lord. The path is not always visible and straight. Forks come ahead in the road and our doubts lead us astray. Prayer is the tool to help combat our doubts. I have strayed from putting God first in my life, but I am given a new chance every day.
2. Put Yourself First
I plan to go into the field of education. My purpose on this planet is to help others. While it is okay to help others, you eventually have to put yourself first. How am I supposed to help anyone when I cannot help myself? Even if I keep putting others first, I will burn candles at both ends and become exhausted. I plan on putting myself first because I am not helpful if I do not take the time to charge myself.
3. Put Your Future First
While it is okay to say yes to the next advance in life, you have to think is it what God has planned for you. I think that opportunities are presented to us as blessings. But in order to for me to ensure that I am putting my future first, I need to say no to good things for greater things to come along.
The word priorities scares me to the core, but it is a word I am learning to embrace. The three qualities that help me become successful have helped me keep my priorities inline. While it is an obstacle to overcome every day, I know that with these three qualities and my love for God I can conquer anything.
