Take Pride In Yourself

Looking nice is always a good confidence boost

One of the things that I hear all the time is " Who are you trying to look good for?" and I have three answers for that; Me, everyone, and no one. I try to look my best every day, and that doesn't mean I have to wear a dress, do my makeup really fancy, and have a tiara on. I do this for myself because I for one feel so much better when I know I look put together. I like knowing that no matter who I would happen to run into in the hallways, the grocery store, or the park I would be confident about what I was wearing and how I looked. By trying to look put together and nice everyday I am also benefitting my peers, my school, and my community, because I am representing them. When I introduce my self around my friends, when I say what school I go to, and when I say where I am from people are putting my face to that place or that group of people, if I look bad or sloppy then thats what I am portaying everything around me as. Also, when I am going to meet up with friends or family, or I'm going to a party, looking good is just respectful. Going over to someones house looking like you don't care at all about your appearance is like saying to them that that event or that person isn't worth the time it would take to dress nicely. I also do this for absolutely no one. Sometimes I wake up a little late and I'm really tired and I really don't want to care what I look like, but I know that if I let myself do that it can become a habit so I make myself do it even though I might not feel like, maybe no one else notices, and maybe I don't meet anyone new that day. I was still prepared. All of this to say there isn't a particular style that counts as looking nice. Whatever your style is wear it with pride. You don't have to spend hours on your hair and makeup, maybe just run a brush through it or whatever works for you to feel good about it. Having pride in youself and your appearance won't hurt anyone, but will help you feel more confident and make others be more drawn to you. And don't forget that your most important accessory is always your smile.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
