Are We Killing The Feminist Movement Or Is It Killing Us?

Too much pride standing in our way of peace and equality.

Are We Killing The Feminist Movement Or Is It Killing Us?
The Blog for Mr. Brick

I recently read an online article for a class 'Long Live Feminism'. It brought some good points to keep feminism alive, although I took away something a little different from it. While I do agree women are still faced with serious problems that have not been solved and deserve to be taken care of, like sexual harassment and rape. It is sexist to say this is a feminist problem and that men are the only sex who do wrong. I think these things are human problems and we should all work to make the world a better place and set a good example for boys and girls to follow, not have girls thinking they're always the victim.

In today's modern society, women are guilty of taking on the roles and attitudes of men or what is expected of men. Since I was young, I have always seen and heard people promoting women to “think and act like a man" and many women do. This change could have come from the huge culture twist around World War 2 where women began holding their own jobs and gained more independence from men. Now, most women hold their same role as homemaker and primary caregiver, with added pressure of obtaining a job along with her husband. Independence is a great thing, but in some ways, women only gave themselves more responsibility.

Could this have made women a bit bitter? Now it is as though they feel they have every right to take on the good, bad and ugly of men’s roles they fought for. There are plenty of women who use and take advantage of great, honest, hard-working men. Women go out, 'check-out,' grope, disrespect and humiliate men just as much as men do to women. Males get raped by females. Agreeable, many women do not act this way, are respectable and still become the victim. I've learned, that is life. Women often shun and hate all men for things that very few men do and vice versus. Feminist did a great job in the last 50 years making men and women equal. How does the saying go? "If you can't beat them, join them!" I feel this is what feminism has done, along with giving women many great rights we are all extremely thankful for. Please do not take this idea in offense; I am thankful. By feeling equal to men, many women lose respect for themselves and treat men how they do not like being treated. For example, a woman who complains about being hit on all the time, but flirts with any man in sight.

Men and women think in completely different ways, but I feel feminism is becoming a problem as serious as racism. As African Americans fought to be equal and won, many swapped roles and are very racist against whites. I think feminism enforces us to continue judging people by their sex, just like racism by race. We should be focusing on unity and the individual person, which is different no matter what sex, race, religion or social class. The sooner the world starts acting this way, the sooner peace will be achieved. We accomplished equal sexes and races, we have the ability to accomplish peace. The only thing standing in our way is pride.

Sincerely,

A Girl More Concerned With Equality Than Gender

The Perks of Being a Girl

“I just want you to know that you’re very special… and the only reason I’m telling you is that I don’t know if anyone else ever has.”

As frustrating and annoying as it can be, being a girl is really awesome. We are beautiful inside and out. Not a lot of people may see that, but girls have a ton of amazing qualities.

We have unique flirting skills.

Us girls have a significant way to flirt with other people. Even when we say the most random or awkward things, we have a way of making everything sound cute and planned. It’s just a gift; we’re good like that.

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:

If you are like me, you have an interesting personality. Basically, you love to be sassy and snarky, gossip, and act like a total bitch (not really), but deep down, you are actually a very genuinely nice person. The idea of actually hurting someone truly makes you feel bad, and you probably have never actually hurt someone’s feelings because your kindness always shines through, even if you do not want it to. Not sure exactly what I would call this type of personality, but if you identify with it, here are some feelings you can undoubtedly relate to.
