From The Previous Louisiana Flood Victim To The Current

First, I would like to start by saying that I am so sorry this has happened to you and your family. No one deserves to receive water damage or even worse, lose their entire home. Nature is beautiful yet can be very dangerous. My house was on a lake, yet we had so much land I never dreamed it would flood. But in March, my worst fear came true and it did. The water rose numerous feet each night and eventually crept in to our house, causing us to lose most of our belongings.

I never imagined such a horrible thing could happen to my Dad and I, but it did. Nothing pulls on your heart strings more than seeing a home you made so many memories in completely destroyed. The days after were filled with worry, sadness, and anxiety which I am sure is what you're experiencing also. We lived in fear of where we would go next and how we would manage to salvage all of the irreplaceable items that were destroyed by water.

Trust me when I say that the days ahead do get easier. Louisiana residents are super close knit and will do whatever they can to lend a hand. Even Taylor Swift is donating a million dollars towards flood relief which is truly amazing. FEMA can be very hard to deal with but as long as you don't give up they will always come through.

We were lucky enough to make it out safely with all of our animals and it breaks my heart to know that some others didn't. At the end of the day, nothing is more valuable than life. Be thankful for the family and friends that you have around you, and pray for those that lost theirs in this tragic time. I found myself asking what my Dad and I could have possibly done to deserve this and then I realized that God has a plan. Although I do not understand why this happened, I know something greater lies ahead. We all need to keep Louisiana in our thoughts as the past year has brought more destruction than hundreds before.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
