I’m not going to lie to you. I am not the most studious guy. I won’t brag, but in elementary school I could ace most tests with my eyes closed. The trick for that is to cheat and keep your eyes open. However, as the years went by, the ability to succeed without studying diminished. By the end of high school I needed to study to get quality grades, and yet, my study habits were no different from middle school. Those study habits included coming home, eating food, doing homework, and watching TV for hours. Not a great recipe. So you can imagine my study habits for my first semester of college. Instead of studying, let’s talk about my inability to focus during finals week.
1. The weeks before
Finals isn’t just the week itself, but the preceding week as well. Theres so many projects and tests you wonder how you are supposed to study for the actual finals. The library was actually busy on a Saturday. Ill tell you, not having the entire floor to myself threw me off. It was the first time I actually saw people put in work on the weekends. Luckily for me, that meant I didn’t have work on Sunday. I spent the whole afternoon watching football while others frantically tried to finish their last assignments.
2. The weird schedule
Nova has an extremely awkward schedule the week before finals. The Tuesday becomes a Friday schedule, while Wednesday and Thursday stay the same, but Friday is a reading day. Then there is a final on a Saturday. I did not sign up for work on the weekends. I will actually have to get sleep on Friday night.
3. Finishing classes
The one good thing is that there is one week of no work in class. Instead, I can focus on reviewing an entire semester in one week. That sounds like it will go well. Hopefully my professors will cover the right material, and also give me an answer sheet.
4. Actual finals
Self-explanatory.
5. Coming home.
Once you finish all your finals, you are allowed to leave. Therefore, scheduling determines when you can go home. For some that means leaving by Monday, while I have to stay the entire week. Pretty sure they did that one just to torture me. Then, just a few days later, when I am still recovering from a migraine, the grades come out. Trust me, that will only worsen the migraine. Hopefully my parents will still let me celebrate Christmas, but my expectations are not high.
