Let's be real, when it comes to music there are certain limitations put on men and women because some people wouldn't expect them to listen to certain genres. To set the record straight, the way a person carries themselves and/or gender has nothing to do with their musical tastes. There are several times where I can recount being on the aux, and people are shocked when they hear what's on my playlist. I always hear, "I thought you only listened to R&B" or "you're too pretty to be listening to music like this"--whatever that means.
Yes, I love R&B but being born in the south and getting put on to music from people I've met throughout the years, has broadened my musical taste.
Let's dig into some of my favorite Hip-hop/Rap songs right now. Make sure to follow me for playlists for every occasion.
1. "Sweet Lady" - 03 Greedo
My homegirl from Oakland put me on to this song and I haven't stopped playing it ever since. When the song starts, you'll be surprised as to where the track will take you once you hear the beat drop, but I promise you won't be disappointed.
2. "Hot" - Key Glock
Anytime I'm feeling good, I'll bump this song because it gives me that reassurance that we all need some times. Peep the lyrics at the beginning of the song, "Hey I know I'm hot/and you not".
3. "Skola Skola" - Ybs Skola ft. Baby Girl
You might know his hit single "Shinin" but this song is one that you can cruise to in the car. The addition of Baby Girl's vocals gives it that R&B twist.
4. "To The Top" - Lil Baby
If you don't know, now you know. He's the one behind the banger "My Dawg".
5. "Acquittal" - Moneybagg Yo & NBA Young Boy
That's all we ever want is it to see people in our circles win. But, it sure can be challenging when you're facing all odds. This song reveals just that.
6. "B'd Up" - 'Lgado
I didn't know about 'Lgado until about a week ago but he's definitely worth listening to.
7. "Boss Life" - YFN ft. Offset
I've always enjoyed the few YFN Lucci songs that I've listened to, but this one here does the trick. It gives me an extra boost.
8. "Nobody Needs Nobody" - Playa Fly
Now, this is a major throwback that my father bumped back in the day (well still till this day). Not everyone will understand this style, but growing up this is what my family listened to and I love it just as much.
