Once upon a time I was talking to a friend.
I was upset about something. I do not remember what it was exactly. It was either that a person was not taking me seriously because I am a woman or that my grades were stressing me out.
When I had finished explaining why I was so upset she responded with "Well, at least you're pretty!" I know her heart was in the right place because I know her.
I know she was just trying to make me feel better.
Though when she said that I immediately shut up. She made me feel like what I had to say did not matter. I had no right to be upset about anything because I am, "pretty".
Everyone is beautiful, so why was I not allowed to be upset about something? If you tell someone, "at least you're pretty." Then you are saying that their problems don't matter.
You don't care about their feelings because they're "pretty". Like I said earlier, everyone is beautiful so either actually care about the person or be honest and say you don't care about anything they're saying.
