After almost years of waiting, Tekken 7 has finally hit consoles and Steam worldwide. It's time to enter the Tekken.
Tekken 7 returns with faces both familiar and new such as Akuma from the Street Fighter series. Gigas, Lucky Chloe, Claudio and more. Now it came packed with a cinematic story mode involving the characters and online play and customization for each character. Needless to say, I was very much excited to play Tekken once more.
This time around, the Mishima Bloodline battle is raging out of control and the whole world is at risk. Jin has gone MIA and Heihachi and Kazuya prepare for their final bout. The story makes use of hand drawn still images and specific cinematic cutscenes at times. Its reminiscent of Street Fighter V's story but better in my opinion. Instead of focusing on the characters caught up in the Mishima family war, the story takes the point of view of a McGuffin. An unnamed reporter's hometown is destroyed and family killed in the battle between Jin's and Kazuya's forces and he seeks to investigate how it all lead to this and going forward in ending their blood feud. His face is never shown and he is merely an observant, serving as a perfect audience substitute as what is happening.
The gameplay is just strict as Tekken normally is. If you're not prepared to spend some time to really dig into the combos and metagame. Even without that, its still fun with friends and there's a lot of characters to choose from. The netcode online is beautiful. Every match I've played feels smooth as butter and minimal lag when it does happen.
Tekken 7 is a really strong fighting game for this year and its quickly becoming one of my new favorites this year in the fighting game apocalypse of Injustice 2, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 and soon on the way ARMS. Definitely pick up Tekken 7.
