Since more and more politicians are declaring their candidacy for the 2016 Presidential race, I decided to start researching since I can now vote. I only researched a few candidates, but whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, this should help you narrow down who you will be voting for.

1. Joe Biden

Joe Biden is a democrat who represented Delaware for 36 years in the Senate before being elected to the position of Vice President in 2008. Fun fact: he was elected to the Senate at the young age of 29 and was one of the youngest people ever elected to the Senate. Although Joe Biden has not declared that he intends on running for president, I included him because there are rumors he will and it is always good to know about our Vice President.

Abortion: Joe Biden accepts church rule personally, but not in public life. He votes for women to choose but opposes federal and public funding for abortions.

Economy: Biden wants to cut government spending by $1 trillion and increase taxes by $600 billion to decrease the debt. He plans on investing in more programs by ending the war and eliminating tax cuts for big companies.

Civil Rights: In 2012, Joe Biden said he was “absolutely comfortable” with same-sex marriage, and he supports equal rights for same-sex couples.

Drugs: Joe Biden believes marijuana is a gateway drug and thinks it would be a mistake to legalize it.

Environment: Solving the energy crisis is one of his top priorities. Biden is a big supporter of renewable energy.

Gun Control: Joe Biden strives for background checks for all gun buyers and a ban on private ownership of assault rifles.

Immigration: Biden is in favor of the border fence more for stopping drug trafficking than illegal immigrants. He believes in a more practical approach to granting citizenship.

2. Jeb Bush

Jeb Bush is the son of George H. W. Bush and brother of George W. Bush, both whom have been president. Bush is a Republican and became governor of Florida in 1994. During his eight years of being governor, he initiated environmental improvements such as conserving the Everglades.

Abortion: He is pro-life and doesn’t believe people should be instructed on issues such as abortion, creationism, and homosexuality.

Economy: Bush says he can increase the GDP by four percent and provide 19 million jobs for the United States. "To grow at 4 percent, we have to have a better workforce. We have to have a better-educated population, we have to embrace our energy future, we have to reform our taxes and deal with our regulation," Bush said.

Civil Rights: He is against same-sex marriage. Bush used to oppose special rights to same-sex couples but now believes in preventing discrimination.

Drugs: Jeb Bush has confirmed to smoking recreational pot and drinking in high school but he now denounces the legalization of marijuana.

Environment: Bush restored the Florida Everglades and banned oil drilling off the coast when he was governor; however, he endorses the Keystone XL oil pipeline, backs rational fracking regulations, and calls for opening up federal waters to drilling.

Gun Control: Bush strongly supports protecting the Second Amendment.

Immigration: Jeb Bush wants to pass meaningful immigration reforms that make the path to citizenship easier.

3. Ted Cruz

Ted Cruz is a republican United States Senator from Texas. Cruz graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School. He served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Abortion: Ted Cruz believes that companies can deny insuring birth control and he is pro-life.

Economy: Cruz wants a flat tax system where every person pays the same amount of income tax. He also plans on abolishing the IRS.

Civil Rights: He opposes gay pride parades and gay marriage. He believes the one-man-one-woman marriage is the building block of society.

Drugs: Cruz has admitted to smoking pot once when he was a teenager. He does not believe in the legalization of marijuana but believes it is up to the states to decide.

Environment: Ted Cruz does not believe in climate change.

Gun Control: Cruz strongly believes in respecting the Second Amendment.

Immigration: Ted Cruz wants to triple the amount of Border Patrol and build a wall to keep illegal immigrants from entering the United States.

4. Donald Trump

Donald Trump is a Republican business investor, television personality, and author. He is the president of The Trump Organization, founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts, and prestigious in the New York real estate business. Donald Trump was a Republican from 1987 to 1999 before changing to the Independent Party from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, Trump switched to the Democratic Party. Eight years later, he changed back to the Republican Party.

Abortion: Donald Trump was previously pro-choice but in 2011 announced he is now pro-life.

Economy: Trumps wants to decrease the corporate tax to zero but impose a 20 percent tax on companies that outsource jobs to other countries. He also wants to implement an income tax system that requires you to pay more taxes when your income rises.

Civil Rights: Donald Trump is against same-sex marriage.

Drugs: He says he will legalize drugs and use the tax revenue to fund drug education.

Environment: Donald Trump calls climate change a hoax and says those who warn of global warming only want to raise taxes. He sued unsuccessfully in 2013 to block plans for wind turbines in Scotland that would power 65,000 homes, arguing that they would ruin the view from a golf course he was proposing to build.

Gun Control: Trump believes guns are necessary for self defense, but believes in a longer waiting period to buy a gun.

Immigration: Donald Trump accuses Mexico of sending drugs, criminals, and rapists to the United States and promises to build a “great, great wall” to keep illegal immigrants from entering the country.

4. Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton has served as Secretary of State, Senator in New York, First Lady of the United States, First Lady of Arkansas, and is a practicing lawyer and law professor. She is married to former President of the United States, Bill Clinton.

Abortion: Clinton is pro-choice and wants to keep abortion "safe, legal, and rare."

Economy: She plans on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure, and cutting middle class taxes.

Civil Rights: When Hillary Clinton ran for president in 2008 she did not believe in same-sex marriage, but in 2013 she changed her mind to support it.

Drugs: Hillary Clinton thinks we need more evidence supporting the benefits of medical marijuana and thinks it is a state’s decision.

Environment: "Sea levels are raising, ice caps are melting, storms, droughts and wildfires are wreaking havoc, 13 of the top 14 warmest years in recorded history have happened since 2000, and this past summer scientists found levels of carbon diode in our atmosphere not seen in hundreds of thousands of years," Clinton said. Hillary Clinton promotes domestic drilling for oil and natural gas.

Gun Control: She has not offered a specific plan on reducing gun violence but Hillary Clinton believes in gun control.

Immigration: Clinton supports a path to citizenship for the immigrants already here because she thinks it would be impractical to deport them all, but she believes that if any of them are criminals they should not be allowed to stay. Her path to legalization includes immigrants paying a fine for entering illegally, paying taxes, and learning English.

I truly hope this gave you a better and unbiased idea of who our future president might be. Of course more candidates will continue to come forward and declare their bid to run, so keep an eye out for them! Also please do your research before you vote and don’t just vote for whomever your parents or friends tell you to vote for. You have been granted an amazing opportunity to make an impact in not only the United States, but the world. So vote, vote, vote!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
