If I Were President

Here is what I would do.

If I Were President

I waited 19 years to get my turn, my right to vote for the next President of the United States and my choices are Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Who says if you host a reality TV show you can be president?

Yes, the first female president would be pretty cool, but not Hillary Clinton. Never Hillary Clinton. Not Donald Trump, definitely not Donald Trump. Therefore, I decided that I would be a better president. Here is what I would do.

1. Lower the price of state colleges.

Yes, I know that making college free is a bad idea and that we would end up paying the same amount of money in taxes. But making the price of state colleges cheaper would make everybody happy. Even if scholarships were made more accessible, people would be able to afford college and wouldn't have to pay off loans for the rest of their lives.

2. Lower the drinking age.

The drinking age in Europe is around the age of 16. They have significantly fewer problems with people around the age of 19 and 20. People over there are taught by their parents to drink socially instead of binge drinking. It is a lot safer having a lower drinking age.

3. Make college textbooks free.

There is no reason to be spending $200 on a textbook for a class you're probably already paying $600 for, at least. Making college textbooks free would be incredibly beneficial to students who are struggling to pay for college.

4. Get our citizens from around the world.

Any countries that are publicly holding American citizens, would be told that they have 48 hours to release them and send them on a flight back to the United States. If they don't, Americans would be coming to get them.

5. Declare war on ISIS.

This is something that really needs to be done. ISIS needs to be recognized as a terrorist group and they need to be stopped. Countries around the world need to join forces and defeat ISIS once and for all. Citizens need to not be afraid of ISIS and not be afraid to leave the country or go to major cities.

6. Cease funding.

Any nations that are supporting terrorist groups will no longer be receiving funding from the Unites States. It is not okay that nations that support terrorist groups have ever received funding from the United States.

7. Throw a personal party in the Oval Office.

I would lock myself in the Oval Office and jump for joy. I would sit in the big chair, jump up and down on the couches, and lay on the carpet that has the seal of the president in the middle. I would look at every single thing in the Oval Office. I would throw a personal party in the Oval Office because I am president.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
