Dear Mr. President

Hold on to the fact that you want to "Make America Great Again."

I have been avoiding all the political debates and rants I see plastered on social media. I have not taken part in the hushed whispers circling the dorm room about the election.

First of all, congratulations are in order. You did something that I never thought was possible. Going from thinking you running for president was a joke, to you winning.

I remember being a senior in high school when I first heard rumors of you running for president. I honestly thought it was the funniest thing I had ever heard. It was the joke you told over lunch with friends, it was the punch line, the talk of the cafeteria. But little did we know that your name would be on our first ballot we would be able to partake in.

There is something I need to get out of the way, Mr. President. I did not vote for you. Which is sad, coming from someone who is registered as a Republican party. I honestly agreed with most of the stuff you stand for. But I just could not bring myself to go through with it. You never told me what you were going to do, Mr. President. I feel like every time I heard you talk, you were defending yourself. If you weren't defending yourself you were bashing Hillary.

As soon as I stood behind that poll, ready and anxious to vote, all I could see were my nieces faces. All I could see was my brothers face as he puts on that police uniform to defend us every day. My two little brothers, who will be entering high school next year. I want them to look up to you, but how can they do that when you say it is okay to disrespect women the way you do?

Now this is in no way to hurt or try and tell you that you're a horrible person. This is simply how I feel, Mr. President. But here is what I can promise you. I am going to keep an open mind about this, I will not be negative about ever little thing. Because I honestly believe you want the best for us. I hope you never lose sight of that, and don't run that mouth of yours. I know I am guilty of that too, but you have a little bit more at stake than I do.

Most importantly I hope you never lose sight of who is truly in charge. You are there for a purpose, you are The President of the United States of America because Jesus put you there. You have a path ahead of you, and I pray that is carefully revealed to you, and that you listen.

Please don't let me down Mr. President. I want to say that out of the negativity, I fought to find the light and you proved to be worthy of that Oval Office you sit in.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
